At the Caledonia Farmers Market this Saturday, we will remember Darlene Stultz. Darlene was the wife of Doug Stultz and co-owner of Winnie's Farm Stand. Their vendor space is noted for its jams & jellies. Darlene passed away this last winter. She enjoyed coming to the market and interacting with all the customers. We will miss her.

This week we have 4 new vendors, from crafts to baked goods. We will also have Georgia peaches, strawberries, some hanging flower baskets, vegetable/herb plants, jams and jellies, maple syrup, honey, alot of baked goods and crafts. Produce is still a little sparse, but I'm sure you can find something to buy. Any child can stop at the Market Manager's tent and pick up a $2 wooden coin to spend towards anything in the market.

We are still distributing $6 senior vouchers, provided by the Marion County Council on Aging grant, limited to 60, one per household, to any senior 60+. Even if you don't live in Marion County, we still have a $6 senior voucher, so come visit us, and stop by the Market Manager's tent first before you shop. We can accept SNAP/EBT cards and the Department of Aging benefit card.

See you Saturday.

OPENING DAY AT THE MARION FAMILY YMCA IS TUESDAY, JUNE 2 FROM 4:30 – 6:30 PM IN THE BACK PARKING LOT!!!!!!!

We have 6 new vendors joining us this year. Some items are fishing lures to soaps to greeting cards to baked goods (a lot of baked goods), pet treats, seasonings, dips and drink mixes.

Of course, we will have our popular returning vendors. However, with all the rain, produce will be limited. Some are bringing hanging baskets, flowers and vegetable and herb plants, so you can have that produce right in your own back yard. We will have maple syrup and craft items.

We will still distribute $6 vouchers to anyone 60+, 1 per household. IF YOU LIVE IN MARION COUNTY, we have limited the number of vouchers to 120 per week AT THE YMCA MARKET.

We are using a numbering system this year to distribute vouchers. It will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. When you arrive at the market, stop at the Market Manager’s tent to get a number. Once you have a number, you can return to your car or browse the market. Once the 120 numbers are gone, there will be no more vouchers until the next week. Before the market opens, the Market Manager will begin distributing $6 vouchers to those that have a number. You do not need to come in number order to get a voucher. If you get a number, you can return to the Market Manager’s table to get a voucher when the market opens.

There will be 4’ orange pylons with CAUTION tape through the top placed from the Market Manager’s tent to the first row of parking spaces after the vendors arrive. Please stand on the market side of these pylons and not in the driveway entrance to the Marion Family YMCA when coming to pick up your voucher or number from the Market Manager’s tent. The driveway directly in front of the vendors will be closed to cars after all the vendors arrive.

If you have an active Department of Aging card worth $50, you will purchase directly from authorized vendors. The market manager will not redeem your benefit and give out vouchers. Look for vendors with an orange sign at their table that says “Spend your benefit here.” You can only purchase fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, fresh herbs, and honey from authorized vendors with your card. No baked goods, jams or jellies, syrup, seasoning mixes, barbeque sauces, etc.

See you Tuesday, June 2.

Mark your calendars!! The Caledonia Farmers Market will host Kids Day at the Market on June 20th from 10:00 - 1:00 pm in the Caledonia Public Square. There will be face painting, a craft, and a snack and a drink. For the 1st 30 kids, there will be a balloon creation. Marion Area Humane Society will be there with pet friendly animals. $2 wooden tokens will be given to each kid to spend towards anything in the market.

If your child received a $2 coin at the Marion Family YMCA's Healthy Kids Day or at the ECO Center LLC when they celebrated Earth Day, bring it to the market to spend. The Clothing Closet at the Caledonia Memorial Global Methodist Church just south of the market will also be open from 10:00 - 1:00 for free clothes to kids.

Come early to do all there is to do. See you on June 20th.

This Saturday, May 30, the Caledonia Farmers Market is opening day in the Caledonia Public Square. We are welcoming 3 new vendors with a variety of products. Come try them out along with our returning vendors.

Produce may be a little scarce as we start the market season with all the rain and no sun. Growing conditions have not been ideal. But that won't last long and soon the market will be overbounding with produce. Just be patient.

The $6 senior vouchers are still available from the Market Manager. Qualifications: 60+ and 1 per household, super easy. However, there is a limit of 60 vouchers for the Public Square market. Vouchers will be good at either market towards the purchase of any product. You can also save them, if you don't see something that catches your eye on Saturday.

This year the $50 Department of Aging benefit will be redeemed directly at authorized vendors. Vendors will be identified with an orange sign at their tent (image below). The benefit can only be used on fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, fresh herbs, and honey. Vendors are also identified on the listing of products included.

Remember, the Public Square market will be located on the north side of the square from Marion Street to the RR tracks. You should be able to park on the south corners of the square, either side of Marion Street, Reece's parking lot, and the elevator parking lot.

See you Saturday.

It’s almost time!!!! The farmers market season begins this Saturday, May 30 in the Caledonia Public Square at 10:00 am and Tuesday, June 2 at the Marion Family YMCA at 4:30 pm!!! Our vendors are excited and anxious to get started. And we hope you are too. The rain has put some produce vendors behind, but we will still have plenty of baked goods and some new vendors with market surprises! So come check us out.

A few things this year have changed:

Marion County Council on Aging once again awarded grant money to the Caledonia Farmers Market for the $6 vouchers.

Change #1 - However, there is a limit of 60 vouchers at the Public Square market and 120 vouchers at the Marion Family YMCA. So, it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. It’s still 1 per household and you must be 60 or older, but there is no income verification. All vendors will accept the $6 voucher.

Change #2 - The $6 voucher can be used at either market. There won’t be one for the Public Square and a different one for the Marion Family YMCA. And you can get one voucher each week at each market.

Change #3 – At the Marion Family YMCA, because we have limited the vouchers to 120 people, those who want a $6 voucher will need to get a number from April when you get to the market until 120 numbers have been distributed. Once you receive a number, you can go and sit in your car or browse the market until the voucher distribution begins. You will turn the number into April when you get your voucher. You do not need to come get your voucher in order of the numbers.

Change #4 – This change pertains to both markets. If at all possible, please wait until the market is close to opening before you approach vendors, so they have time to unload, set up and make their booth ready for their product presentation. They will be most appreciative.

Change #5 – If you were able to reapply online for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program $50 benefit through the Department of Aging and were approved, the card or mobile app will be accepted directly at authorized vendor booths. Authorized vendors will have an orange sign at their booth, so look for it if you want to use your benefit. The market manager will not redeem your benefit and give out vouchers.

Change #6 – Kids who received a $2 wooden coin at the Marion Family YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day or at the EcoCenter’s Earth Day event, can use them any market day towards a purchase of their choice. All vendors will accept them.

Change #7 – If you are a SNAP recipient, the market manager will scan your card and give you tan wooden tokens, each worth $1. However, the supplement called Produce Perks has had all of its funding cut, so no Produce Perks coins will be distributed. If you have green Produce Perks coins from previous years, the market vendors are unable to accept those at this time because of the funding cut.

Change #8 – Marion Family YMCA marketgoers – This year there will be 4’ pylons with caution tape through the top located near the entrance to the YMCA parking lot and the market manager’s tent. Please stay inside the pylons and not in the line of traffic entering the parking lot for safety reasons.

Change #9 – Public Square marketgoers – The location of the public square market will be on the north end of the square from Marion Street to the RR tracks. Many vendors will be in the sun. Please come prepared with sunscreen, sun hats, and sun glasses when visiting the market. Nearby parking will be on the two south corners of the square, along Marion Street (both sides), Reece’s Market parking lot, and the elevator on the northside of the RR tracks.

Have an enjoyable summer market season!

Thank you.

Support Local farmers.

🚨 BREAKING: Farmers across Ohio are now saying they are feeling the squeeze as rising costs, foreign food imports, and growing pressure on farmland continue creating challenges for local agriculture. 🌽🚜

Many farmers across Ohio are now urging the public to support Ohio farmers and the crops grown on Ohio farmland instead of relying on food shipped in from overseas. At the same time, concerns are growing over warehouse expansion, massive development projects, and industrial construction spreading into valuable rural farmland across the Buckeye State.

One Ohio farmer stated, “People don’t realize how fast farmland can disappear once it’s gone. We need to protect the farmers who are still here growing food.”

Ohio is known for its rolling corn fields, dairy farms, soybean crops, red barns, small farming towns, and deep agricultural roots. Now, farmers across the state are speaking out and want their voices heard: support Ohio farmers before more Ohio farmland disappears for good. 🌾🇺🇸
