Woodglen Friends, it is with sad hearts that we share the news of the passing of Ed Madden. Ed was our proprietor for 11 years and a resident of Lebanon Township for many more. Through Woodglen Store Ed provided our community with an early morning coffee spot, a source for community information and gathering, and the best sandwiches around.
He gave many young people their first jobs and taught them values like courtesy, promptness, and hard work and they always came back to visit, share school grades, invite him to their weddings, and generally keep him updated on life after Woodglen.
Ed was a no-nonsense guy with a secret heart of gold. Families dealing with illness or grief always had a gift of food from Ed. Customers facing challenges were discreetly handed a few bucks out of Ed’s pocket for gas money. Local veterans received a discount, active service men and women ate for free, and he was always the first to visit a customer in the hospital. He was a loyal supporter of our local police and firefighters and our community park. Four-legged customers always received a scratch behind the ears and biscuit or pup-eroni. He was a mentor, loyal boss and friend and would give anyone in need the shirt off of his back. All you need do was ask.
Woodglen General Store will be open for our final day of business on Saturday, April 3 from 5:30 am to 3:00 pm. We invite you to stop by to get a last pork roll egg and cheese or Italian sub and remember Ed Madden and his contributions to our community.
