Every day is earth day around here!

Love seeing life pop up everywhere. Noticed this little guy peeking out from under a stump of a tree we cut for utility clearance. This one was put here naturally and will likely grow 3x as fast as the inked I planted a few feet away.

Nature always fills the gaps.

Another year, another successful El Dorado County prophecy

Around here they say "winter isn't over until the dogwoods get snowed on". It was one of these silly little sayings that I never put too much stock into, but 9 springs later and it has not been wrong.

It's been a very mild winter compared to the last few but it's still nice to see an end in sight and plants waking up from a long winters nap.

My wife and I sat out yesterday and got sunburned (mostly .divine.stylist) and today this.. that's life in the foothills I suppose 🤷🏼‍♂️

While the dogwood prophecy has not been wrong, no one can seem to shed light on if this marks the end of winter, or if winter CANNOT be done until this happens with the possibility of more snow.

What are your thoughts?

That moment when "let's go work in the garden" turns into "I want a ride" 🤣

Any day in the garden, regardless of productivity is a good one. Especially when you get to share it with these two.

This day turned into jumping into piles of wood chips, tractor rides, and pvc jousting. Someday they might be helpful, but I'm sure by that point I'll wish they could fit in the wheelbarrow together again ❤️

What's really at the end of the rainbow?

In this case, the "pot of gold" is actually a 1984 Toyota Pickup farm truck 😂

While most people are inside on a temperamental, rainy fall afternoon enjoying their cut Christmas tree I am working hard to get ready for another fresh planting of trees and breaking ground on a new section.

It takes 7-10 years for a fir tree to make it from a seedling planted in the field to your living room cover in lights and proving the holiday ambiance for your family gatherings.

In that time trees must be planted, weeded, watered, weeded, sheered, weeded again (are you seeing a pattern?), and groomed. As I am in the thick of this workload it's nice to have a gentle reminder of the beautiful area that we call home.

Looking forward many years can be frustrating at times, but we look forward to welcoming you and your family back in for u-cut trees in just a few short years. Until then happy holidays from the Wahlgren family.

Well friends, it is with very mixed emotions that I tell you that I will not be growing vegetables for market this year.
-
Thank you all for the incredible support over the last 5 years but I have made the decision to pack up this chapter of my life and return to non-profit work full time.
-
While I lOVE having my hands in the dirt and seeing everyone at markets there is a lot that goes into farming that is less than glamorous and comes with more stress and volatility than I would like most days.
-
These last few year have been a ton of fun and I look forward to what the next chapter holds for me and my growing family. I am exited to grow a large garden for myself and friends (that I will be sharing here still), continuing Christmas Tree plantings until we can open the u-pick, and spending time with family that does not always have farm work element somewhere integrated into it.
-
Thanks again for your support and I hope to see you all around!

Meet Loki our new Boxer puppy!
-
Still getting used to his new life on the farm, he is a transplant from down the hill just like me.
-
He started his life a little “ruff” and was rescued by a nice family in Folsom who fostered him until he could come to his forever home in Camino!
-
I have always been drawn to boxers, they are dog clowns and after losing ours last March to cancer have been looking for the right fit to our family.
-
2 dogs, 4 goats, 2 bee colonies, 2 sheep, one toddler and a baby on the way! Lots of life around here!

I am hoping to have the first few baskets of cherry tomatoes by next weeks markets but only time will tell
-
Tomatoes are my favorite crop to grow. They are large, trainable, and independently unique. There are thousands of varieties each with their own draw and rarely do 2 people have the same favorite.
-
This year I set out a goal for earlier tomatoes and I’m happy to say I think I will have them at least 3 weeks before last year!
