What started as a planting day is part of a larger vision: enhancing a 17-acre campus in Capitol Heights to support environmental conservation, biodiversity, and community stewardship.

Our Climate & Food Justice Fellow, Kennedy talks about the work with our partners , , , and , we planted 500 native plants and distributed 250 to neighbors—expanding this work beyond the site and into the community.

What’s the saying? Plant a tree & live forever. Or something like that.

Yesterday, we had so much fun with our friends from and planting the beginnings of our food forest at our home base .

We added nearly 30 trees everything from Pecans, Walnuts, figs, pears, persimmons, serviceberries, apples, jujubes, to our existing edible landscape wineberries, paw-paws, wild grape, and spice bush.

Much love to all our volunteers who helped us getting this moving. And DJ Blackberri for having the grooves to keep us moving.

And that’s not stopping us! We have about 50 more plants to Gooooooooooo.

Want to GROW with us? Or just need to volunteer? Make sure you like, follow and tap-in for more!

The Capital Market is excited to be on the task force for The Prince George’s County Food and Agriculture Feasibility Study. The consultant team has developed a survey for farmers, residents, food businesses, wholesale buyers, and stakeholders throughout the County’s food system to gather current insight into the local food and agriculture landscape, to better understand community needs and to assess the interest and demand for potential components of a food hub.

We had a blast at the 2026 PGCPS Student Environmental Alliance Summit hosted at Bowie State University last week!

Of course, we had to bring out the pedal power ⚡🚲—showing how our individual energy can literally spark something bigger. From charging devices to powering up conversations, we’re always finding ways to connect people to the impact of their own movement.

Because when we say community power, we mean it—real, tangible, and rooted in action. What we generate together can reduce energy waste, build awareness, and move us toward a more sustainable future.

Catch us outside—we’re bringing the energy wherever we go 🌱✨

It is with profound sadness, yet with hope eternal, that we share that TCM Board member and lead pastor of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Rev. Ronald E. F. Triplett, affectionately known as Pastor Ron, has transitioned and is now an ancestor.

Since BEFORE TCM formed in 2019, Pastor Ron has been by our side, showing up, supporting, and championing food justice in the greater 20743 community . From hosting prayer walks on Addison Road, to inviting farmers conversations during his sermons, to planting seeds in church services, to letting us build a food forest, host an apiary, and build an Agrihub, his life was lived rooted in the faith and agrarian parables of Jesus.

Words cannot express the grief that our team feels with this loss. We will miss his visits to our farmers markets, his jokes and laughter, his spiritual and grounded guidance, and most importantly his friendship.

Yet, through our tears, we still proclaim joy and are reminded that his work lives on, as we continue to be the hands and feet of his light in the world.

04/09/2026

🌱✨ We’ve been a little quiet… but BABY, we’ve been working ✨🌱

Behind the scenes, our TCM Ambassadors have been out here putting in REAL love and labor — prepping our host site, getting the soil right, building out spaces, and laying the groundwork for something beautiful 🌼🌿

Because what’s coming next? A whole Food Forest 🌳🍓 full of culture and care.

In partnership with LISC DC, Greenworks Joes, and some incredible neighbors, we’re not just planting gardens — we’re growing spaces that feed people, pollinators, and possibility 💛🐝

And now it’s YOUR turn to get your hands DIRTY 👇🏾

Whether you’re celebrating Mama Earth 🌍, looking to earn volunteer hours, or just want to be outside doing something that feels good and does good — we got you.

The Blue Line can build us up. But only if we show up. 🚇

Safe housing adds nearly 4 years to your life expectancy. That’s not data — that’s your neighbor. Your family. Maybe you.

This Saturday, we’re gathering at Gethsemane UMC in Prince George’s County for a real conversation about what it takes to build livable, healthy, connected communities along the Blue Line Corridor — and we brought the people with the power to make it happen.

Joining us:
🎙️ U.S. Congressman Glenn Ivey, District 4
🎙️ Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy
🎙️ Tracy Benjamin, Deputy CAO of Economic Development, PG County
🎙️ Rodney Harrell, VP of Family, Homes, & Community at AARP
🎙️ Joel Patterson, SVP of Development at Dante Partners
🎙️ Bryan Franklin, Deputy Director of LISC DC
🎙️ Our own Brittney Drakeford, Co-founder & Director of Community Research and Futures at The Capital Market

And we’re not just talking — we’ll have FREE on-site resources including job training, housing counseling, community legal services, and emergency food assistance.

Whether you’re a housing advocate, a developer, or just need somewhere to start — there’s a seat at this table for you.

Still feeling grateful for the depth and honesty shared at our Field to Market workshop 🌱 With 40 farmers and food businesses in the room, the conversation reflected both the demand for clarity and the collective commitment to strengthening our regional food system.

This year marks 100 years of Black History Month ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

A century ago, historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson wanted to make one thing clear: Black history is American history.

From landownership to scholarship, from home spaces to movement-building, Black people have always used land and place to build power, preserve culture, and imagine freedom. 🌱🏠

This Black History Month, we’re honoring those legacies—past, present, and future—and lifting up the work to protect Black places as living sites of memory, care, and possibility.

& we’re centering OUR neighborhoods and OUR stories. Places like Fairmount Heights, Ridgely, North Brentwood, and Huntsville—where Black life, land, and legacy continue to shape what comes next.

As always…Community is capital. ✌🏿
