Sunday, July 26th is Maine Open Farm Day!!! We will be open 10-3.
Come take a tractor-pulled wagon ride around the farm, go for a storybook walk through the woods, a self-guided farm walk, visit the farm tool museum, or let the kids enjoy our playground with slides, swings, the little red barn, games, a sand table, and Frank's antique Massey Ferguson to "drive".
For a donation to the Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry, we will serve you ice cream and strawberries.
The farm store will be open with new potatoes, broccoli, blueberries, lettuce, other seasonal veggies, honey, strawberry jam, and maple syrup. Also fresh eggs while they last!
Books by Maggie Bell and Debra Nickerson will also be available, as well as farm shirts and merch.
We are celebrating women in agriculture, and especially our beloved matriarch, Adrina McElwain. She was not only a farmer's wife, but a farmer in her own right. After marrying into a potato farming family, she did whatever needed doing...driving truck, tractor, or working on the harvester, as well as handling the accounting. After they retired from potatoes, she, alongside Ralph, grew seedlings, strawberries, summer vegetables, and pumpkins and squash to sell at their roadside stand.
In later years, she continued her farming role by planting and harvesting flowers, which she made into beautiful bouquets to sell at the farm stand.
