Allison Turcan is the Founder and Executive Director of D.I.G. Farm (Dealing In Good), a nonprofit teaching farm and community food systems organization based in North Salem, New York.

Since founding D.I.G. Farm in 2015, Allison has dedicated her work to reconnecting people with the land, local food, nature, and one another. What began as a small educational farming project has grown into a network of community-based initiatives serving youth, families, schools, volunteers, people experiencing food insecurity, and women impacted by incarceration throughout Westchester County.

Inspired by a year spent working and learning on farms in France through the WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) program, Allison returned home with a vision of helping people understand where their food comes from and how agriculture can strengthen communities. That vision became D.I.G. Farm.

Today, D.I.G. Farm welcomes thousands of participants through volunteer opportunities, educational programs, seasonal classes, community partnerships, and local food initiatives. The organization teaches regenerative agriculture, gardening, cooking, food preservation, herbalism, foraging, mycology, and nature connection while making healthy local food more accessible to the community.

Under Allison’s leadership, D.I.G. Farm has developed several innovative initiatives including:

The Westchester Local Food Project, which supports school gardens, community gardens, food pantry gardens, volunteer food production, community kitchens, and local food distribution efforts. Through this work, volunteers grow food for neighbors in need, prepare meals from rescued and locally grown produce, and strengthen connections between local farms and community organizations.

❄️ HOW WE HANDLE COLD & FROZEN DELIVERIES ❄️

One of the most common questions we receive is:
“How do you keep everything cold during delivery?”

The answer is simple: your cold and frozen items are never outside of temperature-controlled storage from the moment we receive them until they arrive at your door.

Here’s how it works:
Cold and frozen items arrive at our sorting location and are transferred immediately from the vendors coolers and right into Farmstand coolers.

As orders are packed, items are sorted into insulated cooler bags along with ice packs.

Those cooler bags are then placed back into dedicated route coolers organized by delivery area.

Every delivery route has separate coolers designated for refrigerated items and frozen items to ensure everything remains at the proper temperature throughout the delivery process.

Your cooler bag remains inside those coolers until we arrive at your door.

If you won’t be home during your delivery window, we strongly recommend leaving a cooler outside. Our drivers will place your cold and frozen items directly into your cooler so they remain protected until you arrive home.

From vendor pickup to your doorstep, we’ve designed our process to keep your products fresh, safe, and temperature appropriate every step of the way.

Because local food should arrive just as fresh as it left the farm. 🌿

Welcome .11.11 to the Farmstand Society!

What started as one mom’s determination to bring bread back to what it was always meant to be has grown into a deep passion for creating nourishing, intentionally crafted sourdough. Every loaf begins with a thoughtfully selected blend of organic grains that are freshly milled into flour rich in the nutrients modern bread has lost over time.

One of those grains is einkorn, an ancient grain prized for its digestibility and natural nutritional value.

Every part of the process is approached with care and intention, from the ingredients themselves to the tools used along the way. Only non-toxic materials are used throughout the baking process, including glass, organic linen, stainless steel, and cast iron. Each dough is long fermented to support better digestion, then baked in small batches with patience, purpose, and a whole lot of
love.

This is bread brought back to its roots: simple, nourishing, and made the way it should be.
