With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Pete Coscarart, the beloved heart of Villa Basque Café. He is now in the arms of Jesus and will forever remain in our hearts.
To our family, he was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, brother, uncle. To Carson City, he was a friend, a familiar face, and the warmth that greeted you by swinging doors of his kitchen.
Pete was raised in a Basque village in Spain, where he learned the traditions of family, food, and hospitality that would shape his entire life. He later made his way to Nevada as a sheepherder later planting roots in Battle Mountain at Lemaire’s Store. Eventually building his legacy in Carson City, where Villa Basque Café became more than a restaurant. It became a gathering place, a second home, and a part of this community.
Pete believed everyone who walked through the doors was family. His kindness, humor, generosity, and welcoming spirit created a space where birthdays were celebrated, friendships were formed, and generations grew up around the same tables.
He quietly supported those who serve our community. Pete was known to wake before dawn to help pack meals for firefighters out battling wildfires. Veterans, first responders, and local law enforcement always had a place at his table, and many became lifelong friends. Villa Basque is not just a café; it is a place of comfort and care for the people who protect Carson City.
His greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, 7 grandchildren, and generations who will carry forward his love, strength, traditions, and spirit.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love from this community he cherished so much. Your stories, memories, and support mean more than we can express. Villa Basque Café will continue serving the community in honor of Pete’s legacy.
We remain committed to the warmth, hospitality, and traditions Pete built this café upon.
A memorial service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 10am. Location: Calvary Chapel, 1635 E. Clearview Drive Carson City, NV 89701. All who knew and loved him are welcome. We will be closed on Saturday, February 28th to allow family and staff to attend services, and will reopen on Tuesday, March 3rd.
We find comfort in imagining him in Heaven now, his accordion in hand, filling the room with the same joy he gave us here.
