'Tis the season for a beloved southern summertime staple - Field Peas!

Field peas are flavorful and versatile - Black-eyed peas are most commonly known field pea, but lesser known varieties like Pink-eye or White Acre peas are just as tasty! They can be mixed into salads, or cooked alongside your favorite veggies as a side dish to any meal. Our field pea offerings come from Roberts Family Farm, which is located in Willow Springs, NC!

And, if you like their field peas, be sure to check out their butter beans too! We have both varieties available now!

Originating from Japan, these versatile green peppers can be eaten raw, but are typically blistered or charred on a grill! They make a great snack because of their mild sweet and spicy flavor, and can be paired with a variety of other summertime veggies for a flavorful meal or side dish.

Peach season is upon us!!!

Peaches are available in North Carolina from late May until late August. However, the sweetest, most flavorful varieties come to maturity during the peak of the season, through the month of July.

To start out our peach season this year, we have a yellow freestone variety called Messina from Ken Chappell, who is a fourth generation farmer based in Eagle Springs, NC. Messina peaches tend to have less fuzz than other varieties, and are known for their sweet juicy flavor!

Did you know we offer local living basil?

Coming from Smith's Nursery, we have regular basil and thai basil available! Basil can be used to add a sweet, fresh component to a variety of meals, soups, and sauces. Thai basil is a unique basil variety that is used most often in Southeast Asian dishes, and is known for its slightly spicier flavor that is often compared to licorice or anise.

Our Recipe Kit highlight of the week is this Gremolata and Mushroom Pasta Salad with Fresh Arugula!

Fresh flavors come through beautifully in this delicious pasta dish that is perfect for a hot summer day. Gremolata is an Italian herb condiment of minced parsley, lemon zest, and garlic. The gremolata is combined with earthy cremini mushrooms and a bit of white wine for a light but satisfying pasta sauce, and mixed with baby arugula for a crunchy kick!

Tomatoes are a summertime favorite, and we've got plenty to offer!

In our opinion, there is nothing better than a sweet, juicy local tomato fresh off the vine. We have Heirloom varieties, bite-sized cherry and cocktail tomatoes, crisp green tomatoes, Beefsteak tomatoes, and more! As always, we thank the farmers at Red Hawk Farm, Smith's Nursery, and Lee's Produce for providing such an abundance of fresh, local summer tomatoes!
