Grafting - so I was able to get a little grafting done this week in between rains. This is the last week that I graft - it gets too hot in June and the grafts dry out before they take resulting in very low success. I used graft wood that I collected from my trees in mid Feb., stored in a ziplock bag in the ice box. I am only grafting Kanza this year.

See photos below and I will put notes on each photo to discuss what is going on...

Looked at pecan crop again - definitely have some Maramec and Kanza, nuts are still too small to really see higher in the trees. I see very few Pawnee or Shawnee so far.

Started spray for Pecan Scab today...

Looking over the trees, it is hard to tell because the nuts are still small, but we do have some young nuts coming on.

I can see more on the Maramec trees than the others, but time will tell... easier to tell in a couple of months as the nuts grow out a bit.

Grafting Time

May is the time to graft pecan trees... sap is running in the trees, temps are not too high (drys out scion too fast if it is)... Over the next three weeks I will continue to do some clean up grafting in our small grove. I probably have 20 trees I would like to do this year. I typically get 80% to 90% success... I will post pictures.
