The Trump EPA is being sued for approving trifludimoxazin, a PFAS “forever chemical” pesticide, for use on some of the most common foods American families eat.
Center for Food Safety, Center for Biological Diversity and Pesticide Action & Agroecology Network North America filed the lawsuit challenging the EPA’s approval.
Trifludimoxazin is now approved for use on corn, wheat, oats, soybeans, oranges, apples, peanuts, almonds and other crops.
The EPA acknowledges that trifludimoxazin caused thyroid tumors in studies. The groups challenging its approval say it is a likely human carcinogen and point to concerns about reproductive harm, birth defects and neurological effects associated with this class of herbicides.
And because it is a PFAS pesticide, the concern doesn’t end with what is sprayed on our food. Trifludimoxazin can take years to decades to fully break down, with the potential for persistent PFAS byproducts to contaminate our soil and water.
American families are already exposed to pesticides and PFAS from far too many sources. We should be working to REMOVE chemicals from our food, water and environment, not approving more of them.
Our regulatory agencies must put the health of our children and future generations before chemical industry profits first.
