Attention spicy jelly lovers!

If you're a fan of the spicy prickly pear habanero jelly, I humbly suggest that you stock up now and don't delay. This is not a marketing ploy to sell more jelly... the future of my spicy jelly is uncertain.

Let me explain... WAIT, there is too much. Let me sum up! (no situation is too serious that I won't work in a Princess Bride reference). Essentially, I'm severely allergic to the peppers. I've been having the Hippie Husband do all my taste testing for the last year (give or take) because I can no longer consume even tiny amounts of peppers without huge reactions. But last night, I was making a big batch of spicy jelly for this weekend and had a huge reaction to the aerosolized capsaicin in the air.

So. I have spicy and mild prickly pear habanero jelly on hand for the moment. You can find us this weekend at the Talon Craft Faire today from 5-9pm and tomorrow from 9am-5pm AND at our regular booth at the Festival City Farmers Market tomorrow from 10-2, but I won't be making any more at least for the rest of the year, possibly ever. :(

I'm toying with the idea of hiring someone to make it for me, but I just don't know that I'd ever feel confident enough to sell jelly I didn't make myself. So we'll see. But for now, there is a limited supply and when it's gone, it's gone.

Today I had the pleasure of helping one of my regular customers, Sara Neilson Carey, create a gift for her elderly neighbor who loves tradescantias. Her neighbor wanted purple and Sara had the inspired idea to create a mixed pot with varying purple toned tradescantias. So she chose a few varieties and I put the mixed pot together for her. I LOVE the way it turned out so much I can't wait to create one for myself!

Sure, you can technically buy plants at Home Depot or Walmart. But shopping the Prickly Hippie Greenhouse is a whole different experience! We've got an incredible variety of plants you won't find anywhere else locally (as well as some common favorites), expertly cared for by yours truly, PLUS services that leave you feeling like a VIP! Did you know that your more colorful or variegated plants will get MORE colorful and MORE variegated with brighter light? Here's a good example. This is a picture of my pink aglaonema. You can see the lower (older) leaves are not as pink as the new growth. The older leaves are what was there when I got her from a big box store. The newer growth is the color that emerged under my grow lights at home. 🤩

Just doing some propagating this morning and thought I'd share! If you're wanting to get into propagating and not sure where to start, tradescantias are the EASIEST and QUICKEST plant to propagate. In fact this would be a great plant to propagate with kids since it's so easy to do, the plant grows quickly, and you'll see roots FAST. I've got several varieties in stock including many you definitely won't find locally. Come check out these gorgeous babies 7 days a week by appointment.
