We're looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) "S.M.I.L.E. Ambassador" to help connect local families and seniors with fresh, local food at Modoc Certified Farmers Markets this season.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position for the 2026 farmers market season, with 75 hours available.

As a S.M.I.L.E. Ambassador, you'll staff the market info booth at farmers markets, help customers use nutrition benefits, distribute incentives, answer questions, conduct outreach, and help new shoppers navigate the market.

We're looking for someone who:
• Is fluent in both English and Spanish
• Enjoys talking with people and helping others
• Can provide friendly, respectful customer service to everyone
• Is dependable and available to work Saturdays throughout the summer and early fall
• Has reliable transportation and is comfortable traveling throughout Modoc and Lassen Counties

The Farmers Market S.M.I.L.E. (Support for Market Incentives and Learning for Everyone) Program increases access to California-grown fruits and vegetables for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) participants and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program participants in Modoc and Lassen Counties through nutrition incentives, outreach, education, technical assistance, and community engagement.

☀️🍉Great news, California! The SUN Bucks food program is renewed for Summer 2026! 😋

More than 3.5 million eligible California children will automatically receive SUN Bucks EBT cards that can be used to purchase groceries starting in June, and each eligible child will receive $120. Eligible children who are not automatically enrolled will need to apply through their school to get benefits.

Our community needs more local food producers at the market, and we want to make participation feel possible and accessible for everyone who's interested.

Good news, WIC families! You can use your California WIC Card at all Modoc Certified Farmers Markets, and we'll even match your spending!

The new WIC Card now has a quick-response (QR) code, making it easy to use your Fruits and Vegetables Benefit at farmers’ markets. Use your card to buy fresh, locally grown produce. 🍅🥦🍇🥕

Here is how it works:

Shop at a WIC authorized farmers’ market.
Show your WIC Card, and the farmer will scan the QR code.
Confirm your purchase by entering your PIN, and enjoy fresh, local fruits and vegetables.​
