And one damn more! Courtney is our sassy jack of all trades. She is stock master, organizer, our story teller and all around motivator. Courtney joined us last August and fit right into our quirky family. Her wicked and infectious sense of humor has helped us all stay sane throughout Covid. Her next foray will be in the medical field where her big heart will surely be appreciated by anyone she pokes with a needle.

The end—our last day—brings us to the beginning. It’s the faces of & Earl's grocery, Bonnie Warford and Tricia Maddrey.

How do you summarize over 3 decades of service, innovation and success within a city?

The first picture was taken in 1989 at the opening of Carpe Diem, in its original home in the Ratcliffe building uptown. Over the next three decades, the restaurant would move 3 times before reaching its final resting place on Elizabeth Ave.

Earl's Grocery came to be after seeing the needs of both the street and the neighborhood. Bonnie & Tricia spent many Carpe nights talking to customers from the hospital who'd been visiting, holding vigil, holding hope and saw what was missing. Those people, among others, needed a day-time welcoming space to nourish themselves, their loved ones and friends. To be able to plug in and meet for business or pleasure and prepare for dinner all at the same time.

Earl's became the hub that the sisters had envisioned and it served the neighborhood well. When Covid hit, the sisters had to choose between 2 loves. Carpe would close and Earl's Grocery evolved into what would best safely serve the community. However, like a lot of other small businesses during this time, the store simply took hits that made it impossible to recover from.

Bonnie and Tricia began with a vision over thirty years ago and built it one location at a time with their hearts, with fortitude and grace, never knowing the culinary icons they would become.

To know them is to understand the heart and ingenuity that both businesses grew from and the family working environment it created. Over the last couple of weeks we’ve featured cherished members of our team. These faces are the big WHY for Bonnie and Tricia. I think I can speak for all of us that it’s been an honor to work alongside you. Words can’t describe how mightily you’ll be missed.

Your kindness, your leadership and your grace will live on in us. We send you off on your next adventures with great respect and immense love. Thank you for a solid 32 years of culinary delight.

Here is Wah, undoubtedly the face of Earl's and the most recognizable smile that's greeted nearly each and everyone of you since 2014.

Born and raised in London, love and adventure brought Wah to the states where she's captured the heart of the queen city.
With Wahs natural ability to make everyone feel like family she helped mold the culture of Earl's with genuine conversations and the goal to hug anyone that would let her.
It's not every job that you get to be surrounded by those who choose positivity in even the hardest situations and she is the ultimate example.
If you don't already know her, you probably will at some point and if you already do then you understand what we're saying.
Going to miss every damn thing about her💛

This is Briar, our sweet n sassy sprite!

She joined Earl's just a couple months ago and easily worked her way into our work family.
When Briar isn't at Earl's she's teaching color guard at a local high school.
If anyone is looking for a pt barista, Briar is accepting offers😎

We present to you Jennifer Jordan.
A true "girl friday."
Jen started with in 2011 bussing tables, serving, bartending, catering and office work. She also goes by the name of
and supplied Carpe Diem with all its honey needs.
Jen was essential in the transition through covid, closing and prepping Earl's for its evolution into a grocery store and responsible for a major part of our extensive wine offerings. She not only helped organize the administrative aftermath but physically kept and from drowning in paperwork.
Jen departed Earls a couple months ago to finish her master's degree in archives managment and is currently interning at Duke University digitizing items from their archives.
There's not much she hasn't done or couldn't do. We're grateful to have had her friendship and skills for so many years. We miss you constantly!

Today we are spotlighting Thomas, a face you probably haven't seen often yet he's played an enormous role in the Earl's crew since 2018.

Thomas is a 3rd generation fisherman from florida, who's interests span from working on a bee farm, to cyber security. For us he's been the always helpful gentle giant, jumping in on prep, keeping the kitchen pit clean and organized.

Really gonna miss this guys helping heart and giant scores on red stripe & pbr 😉.

Here is Hannah. She's been cooking professionally for the last 10 years and trained under
for a large part of her career. Hannah joined the Earl's family in April as our chef and has helped us navigate through our final days.
Hannah is looking forward to spending days adventuring with her daughter Lila and sharing her knowledge of mushroom foraging which she's certified in!
Though she hasnt been with us long we appreciate her dedication to keeping the kitchen crew hydrated, her creative vegan and vegetarian concepts and fun nickname assignments to everyone.

Here is chef Obie and there can only be one.
Born and raised in New Orleans, he was trained under renowned chef Greg Picolo from 1996 until 2015. He then brought his skills and NOLA energy to as the grill master before accepting the chef position at Earl's in 2019.
If you ever had any of our creole or cajun dishes, guaranteed they were authentic and made with the same zest he brought to the entire staff. Obie kept the crew lighthearted when the social climate of covid was heavy, always had a smile to share and let his creativity shine through the meals that we all got to enjoy.
Even though he left in May to embark on his own venture in ATL with his family, he has always been and will always be part of ours. Miss you chef, thank you for being such a big energy for all of us here.
