Tiki Hut

Tiki Hut Keeping friends updated on the happenings of the Tiki Hut, when produce is in, and prices Hi friends! The produce I grow on the property is better than organic.

Some of you may not know what the Tiki Hut Farm Market is about. We built the tiki hut last year (2014) after I realized I needed an upgrade over my card table I sold produce out of in 2013. The tiki hut is made from Bass trees found on our property, and thatched with grass grown from my aunt's property. It was a bit of a challenge putting it together (as with the geodome green house) but we are g

lad we did. It gave us a unique platform to sell our veggies and fruit out of. It is grown with 0 pesticides, and I do my best to use only natural fertilizers and no herbicides. Sustained agriculture is one of my many passions. Demand for my vegetables and fruit was high enough that I had to start looking for local farmers and Amish communities who wholesale me vegetables to sell to the public. I also received tremendous help from local farm markets like Q's Plants in Hersey, Circle Farms in Baldwin Mi, and Hearty Harvest in Remus, MI. Without their help, I would have an awesome tiki hut, but with no high quality vegetables and fruit to sell. Each week we keep growing and getting better, and I invite the public, my customers, and anyone else vested in sustained agriculture to come grow with me :)

It was a busy day, but we aren’t even close to being sold out of baskets for Mother’s Day! We open early, tomorrow (Sunday) 8am - 6! We still have a great selection… 2 greenhouses full!

Come buy mom a basket! We’re open 8am to at least 6pm this weekend (including Sunday). I say “at least 6” because I won’t close until you stop showing up! Yesterday it was well past 7 :-)

These are the old fashioned Wave Petunia baskets I started by seed way back on January 4th! The weather hasn’t been much better of late, but I’m removing them from their hiding spot today and they will be available for Mother’s Day. I have over 300! I enjoy the waves as their smell and unique colors are outstanding :-). $19.99 for 10” basket and $25 for 12” baskets.

Fruit trees! Grown right here in Michigan! Most from the big box stores are grown out of state and shipped in. It’s important because trees grown here are better acclimated to our climate (it’s not fool proof but if does help). We don’t do a lot of them. Once they are gone, they’re gone. I’ve already added 6 to my personal orchard so get them before I do! $45.99

Sarah made up our custom “Mother-In-law baskets” priced at $11.99! We are able to offer these cheaper because we use recycled material when possible, and smaller starter plants. So you’re getting a product that’s not very filled out yet, but with time, and good care, it will be a gorgeous basket. That’s why I call it a Mother-in-Law basket. You might not be too enthusiastic about it at first, but it it will “grow” on you :-)

We are loaded with 2 greenhouses full of baskets! So many baskets we have to put them on the floor! Believe it or not, so far every year we are practically sold out the day after Mother’s Day! Beat the crowds and come help us clear some walking lanes :-)

We got our perennials in and they are all priced and ready to go! Some things, like many perennials and leafy greens, are fairly cold tolerant and can take some of our fun temperature swings :-)

We’re kicking off our very first fundraiser for the Chase Community Cupboard 🌸

Our goal is to raise $275 to cover the cost of filing for our 501(c)(3). Once we’re official, it opens the door to bigger opportunities — like working with programs such as Feeding America and expanding what we can offer right here in our community.

We’re really grateful to be teaming up with The Tiki Hut to make this happen — they donated two beautiful hanging baskets, so we’ll have two winners! 💐

Here’s how it works:
🌸 $5 per entry
🌸 Each entry gets your name in the drawing
🌸 Enter as many times as you’d like
🌸 Two winners will be drawn
🌸 Drawing will be LIVE on Facebook May 8 (just in time for Mother’s Day)

How to enter:
💸 Venmo or cash
💬 Message this page
📞 Call or text Sarah Nyp – 616-298-6317

This is something we’re building for our community, with our community — and every single entry helps us take that first step 🤍

I apologize to those of you who came by because Facebook said we were open! I thought I fixed that but evidently didn’t do everything. We open Tuesday the 28th and it’s better to come by in the afternoon because that morning we’ll be busy unloading a truck. Perennials will be here hopefully sometime next week, but I don’t know the date yet on those. :-). (This is a picture of our row of beautiful veggie starts we grow right here)
