🌼 🌼 🌼 ✨ Monica ✨ 🌼 🌼 🌼
Let’s meet Monica, who has been an important team member here at the farm. She started with us last year and we are so lucky to have her talents with us. Fun fact, we all attended Goucher College together and reconnected a few years ago!
Hometown: South Philly!
Favorite task on the farm and why? Harvesting Zinnias. There aren’t enough tasks in our lives that include a “wiggle test.” What’s not to love? Plus, Homebody grows the most beautiful varieties! I’m so charmed by the surprising shapes, colors, and patterns Zinnias can display.
Least favorite task on the farm and why? Raking wet woodchips to mulch the pathways. No amount of personal training or weight lifting can prepare you for the brutality of this task.
Favorite farm veggie or flower and why? Beets! They’re so earthy, and I think a beautiful vegetable that so obviously came out of the dirt is kind of romantic. And Gladiolas, simply because they look like they could have existed in prehistoric dinosaur times.
Farm tool of choice and why? Scythe, no question. There are a lot of tasks on the farm that I do in my daily life: digging in a garden, weeding by hand, harvesting and planting. I don’t think of them as activities isolated to the farm. Using a hand scythe is so uniquely “farming” to me. It always makes me feel like I’m living before the Industrial Revolution.
