Lockbriar Farms

Lockbriar Farms family u-pick fruit farmcommitted to providing local, fresh products and outdoor fun, since '93.

Our philosophy combines organic processes, IPM measures, the cultivation of organic seed, and co-op support of other local farm families. Lockbriar Farms is a family-run business, owned and operated by Wayne and Marcella Lockwood along with our children Jacqueline and James. The original farm, located in rural Cecil County, Maryland was developed on land owned by the Frazier family dating back to

the 1800's. We have been commercially growing fruits and vegetables since 1993, following a long lineage of Maryland farmers, dating our roots in Kent County, MD back to the Civil War. We began growing strawberries, which were sold wholesale to roadside stands and supermarkets. After a few years, we decided to shift our operation towards retail to connect directly with our customers. With help with variety selection and growing methods was obtained from the University of Maryland Wye Research Center and USDA Fruit Research Station in Kearnysville, W.V., we were able to expand and diversify our produce operation. To keep up with 'the new' we attended conferences every year on new technology, different varieties, and new methods for modern farming. As we continued to grow, we added raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, gooseberries, currants, and elderberries plus a full line of vegetables including sugar corn, cantaloupes, watermelons, and tomatoes–including our High Tunnel systems and early tomatoes. After we relocated from Cecil County to Kent County, we had to replant everything, adding peaches, apples, plums, apricots and sweet cherries. Our farm first opened for "U-Pick" in 2007 with strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. In 2008 we added peaches, blueberries, apples and pumpkins, then in 2009 we added white peaches, nectarines, apricots and pluots to our U-Pick operation. Here, at Lockbriar Farms, we strive to grow the best quality fruits and vegetables possible, using IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practices and reduced spraying with organic products whenever possible. We are committed to a cleaner, healthier environment for our family, farm, and community.

A little rainy out — we have fruits and veggies and are *kinda* open — fields are weather permitting. I don’t recommend picking berries when it’s wet out.

WOW! What a turnout for opening day for u-pick strawberries. We are offering pre-picked berries for Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10) — fields need some time to resttttttt and ripen! 🍓
