As the Farm-acy part of the farm I'm often asked, "How do I know where to start finding safe and helpful plants?" Well you are in luck. Tomorrow at the Lafayette Farmers Market we will be a part of a wonderful series of herbal classes from local herbalists and artisans. This is a perfect opportunity to learn everything from teas to tinctures, mushrooms to mullein, hormones to headaches and so much more.
Our focus will be teaching you how to look in your own garden, forest or field for medicinal plants that will enable you to avoid harmful chemicals that ultimately can prevent your body from healing itself naturally. The foraging session will have an interactive identification activity to show you just how easy it is to start processing a few simple plants for medicinal use.
We will then segue into some of our favorite plants that we use for injured skin. Our skin is the largest organ in the body whose job is to keep harmful things from entering. Most products used on the skin contain chemicals, toxins and contaminants that make the skin vulnerable. There are wonderful ways we can harness the antibacterial, antioxidant healing properties of this area's bountiful plant life to protect and treat our skin with kindness and care. You will see how to do an oil extraction that can be used as a serum, a salve or as a carrier oil for topical application.
Then as we wrap up we will include some pampering. We will show some easy ways to make good everyday skin care without botox, fillers, or acids that will help this important organ of your body stay healthy, strong, and glowing. We will discuss differences in tallow, lard and goats milk as choices to make luxurious soaps and salves. As you know, cleanliness is next to Godliness!!
So come join us, along with other amazing vendors, as we all open up for you the world of plants, herbs and roots.
