Jennifer, Monte, and Kaliis visited Sapowsky Farms in Granby, where they learned about the decades-long friendship between the Sapowsky and McKinstry families. The McKinstry family has grown vegetables for McKinstry Market Garden, Inc. in Chicopee since 1908.

In this episode, Steve Sapowsky and Bill McKinstry discuss farming, friendship, and how Will and Warren McKinstry, Bill's sons, are in position to keep Sapowsky Farm going in Granby while managing it alongside McKinstry Farm. It's a beautiful synergy, where Steve and Tammy get to retire, and the land stays as farmland while the community continues to enjoy fresh, local produce. 🥰

🍓Our crew has been busy this past week planting over 50,000 strawberry plants for next year’s season. 🍓🌱👨‍🌾

Our 2026 strawberry season will be starting soon! We will have PLENTY of our own strawberries, picked fresh by our amazing crew, available in the farm store at both the Chicopee and Granby locations throughout this season. 🍓

With that said, we did want to share that we won’t be having a Strawberry Festival this year and regular Pick Your Own strawberries won’t be available this season. We may still have the occasional strawberry PYO pop-up at our Chicopee farm location, so keep an eye on the page for updates throughout the summer.

Although this season looks a little different, we’re already looking ahead and working hard toward what we hope will be a great strawberry season next year, Mother Nature willing, of course.

🌦️ Farm Update for Today 🌦️

Our store at McKinstry Farm in Chicopee will be closing early today at 5:00 PM. Our Granby location will be closing the usual time at 6:00.

🍦 Scouty’s Scoop Shack will remain open until 9:00 PM, weather permitting!

With the warm weather ahead, many hours are spent in the tractor prepping fields for ideal growing conditions as we head into one of the busiest planting stretches of the season.

We’re working hard to get our first tomatoes and peppers planted, along with butternut squash for fall harvest and winter storage! 🚜👨‍🌾🍅🫑
