🦔 When Armadillos Attack!

Heat is apparently not the only thing we have to battle around here...

We’ve spent the last few weeks dealing with what appears to be a very determined armadillo invasion. Seed beds have been dug up, holes have appeared everywhere, and our poor garden has taken a beating.

Thankfully, Jon has been busy turning the garden into Fort Knox. 😂 We now have chicken wire covering the bottom of the fence and extending along the ground, so hopefully our armored adversaries will decide to dine elsewhere!

But there’s plenty of good news too:

❄️ The cold room is officially up and running!

🏡 The farm shop has been painted and is looking more and more like an actual shop.

⚡ Our mysterious new project continues moving forward, and the new building is finally scheduled for delivery Wednesday. More details soon... 👀

📦 Subscribers have a fun box this week with mushrooms, squash & zucchini, peppers, quail eggs, okra, cucumber, sweet corn, and even carrots! Big thanks to our friends at MAC Farm for supplying the mushrooms, quail eggs, and okra.

🌱 We also have fall seedlings available! Alex has Delicata, Winter Sweet, Spaghetti and Honeynut squash going, plus Bottle Gourds and New England Pie Pumpkins. Let us know what you’d like when ordering.

🎡 IMPORTANT: We will NOT be at Wheeler District Farmers Market this Friday due to everything currently happening with construction around the farm. We’ll miss you, Wheeler!

🏗️ Things are coming together at Triple Cross Acres!

It has been another BIG week around the farm:

❄️ The cold room mini-split is working! Just need to get the CoolBot installed and we should finally be back in business.

🏡 Our farm shop is taking shape as the drywall goes up.

⚡ And we're making major progress on the infrastructure for our still-secret project. The building itself should finally arrive next week! 👀

Meanwhile, the harvest continues!

🥗 We even have a little Salad Mix this week made with Jericho Lettuce & Malabar Spinach.

It’s been another busy week at Triple Cross Acres! School is back, the cold room is hopefully nearing the finish line, and work is moving quickly on a certain big farm project we’re not quite ready to reveal yet. 👀

☀️ Fresh Through the Heat

The Oklahoma heat is not letting up! While lettuce and root vegetables struggle through these hot July days, our squash, cucumbers, okra, peppers, and other summer crops are right at home.

Several customers asked about our salad mix following the recent recall of shredded iceberg lettuce from a large national supplier. That recall definitely did NOT involve our greens. Our salad mix is grown right here on our farm and travels directly from us to your table, often within just a few days of harvest. We’re grateful for everyone who continues to support locally grown food!

Meanwhile, Tran has been busy putting the summer harvest to work in the kitchen. This weekend we’ll have:

🍇 The Taste of Summer has arrived at Triple Cross Acres!

Every season has its own challenges, and right now ours is keeping everything cool through the Oklahoma heat. Thankfully, we made another big step forward this week by adding a second refrigerator to our cargo van, which should make transporting fresh produce much easier. We're still waiting on work to resume on our cold room, but we're hopeful we'll have good news to share before long.

The harvest continues to grow, and we're especially excited about a few new additions this week!

🍇 Elderberry Jelly is back! Rich, flavorful, and one of our favorite preserves of the year.

🥗 Our salad mix now includes beautiful amaranth greens for the very first time. They add wonderful color and a delicious savory flavor—we think you're going to love them.

🌶️ Summer peppers are finally arriving! Along with our first tomatoes, we now have jalapeños, serranos, shish*tos, Hungarian hot wax peppers, Italian frying peppers, Anaheim peppers, and banana peppers.

Tran has also been incredibly busy preserving the summer harvest. Between harvesting, pickling, and making jams and jellies, the kitchen has become a full-time operation! Because of that, we're taking a short break from bringing baked goods to market while preserving season is in full swing. They'll be back once things slow down a bit.

❄️ Big Steps Forward at Triple Cross Acres!

It's been an incredibly busy week on the farm, but we're excited to share a few highlights.

The biggest news is that the spray foam finally went into our new cold room! This has been one of the biggest milestones in getting the project back on track. Lord willing, construction can now continue, and before too much longer we'll have our cold room back in operation. Our faithful re**er trailer has been an absolute champion through all of this, but it's definitely looking forward to retirement after battling the Oklahoma summer heat!

We also picked up a refrigerator for our cargo van this week. A huge thank you to Peter from Purely Foods Farm for helping make that happen! If you're ever in Guthrie, be sure to stop by their new downtown store. It's a wonderful place run by wonderful people.

Summer is finally beginning to arrive in the garden! 🍅🌶️

Our first cherry tomatoes and peppers are now ready, with plenty more ripening on the vines. Every week the harvest keeps growing.

Tran has also been busy in the kitchen, and we're excited to introduce two brand-new items:

🌿 It's been one of those weeks where there are more projects than hours in the day.

The good news? The farm keeps moving forward.

✅ The farm store insulation is nearly complete.
✅ The shade cloth system is working beautifully.
✅ Cucumbers and squash are finally in the ground.
✅ We harvested our first red tomatoes of the season.
✅ Fresh basil has arrived.
✅ Tran made another batch of her Strawberry Ch*****ne Mint Jam after completely selling out.

We also had an army of young helpers out on the farm this week. Many hands truly do make light work, and we're grateful for every one of them.

☀️ Summer is arriving at Triple Cross Acres.

This week seemed to be all about people.

We had the pleasure of hosting a farm tour through OLAC, complete with a giant tour bus and everything! It was a joy to share the farm with visitors, gardeners, and fellow farm enthusiasts, and to talk about why we chose to become Oklahoma's only Certified Naturally Grown farm.

We're also incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we've received at the Wheeler District Farmers Market. Expanding to a second market has been a big step for us, and the support we've received has been overwhelming.

Meanwhile, the farm keeps moving forward:

🌿 The people behind the produce.

This week's farm pictures remind me how many wonderful people help make this little farm possible.

🐝 Dr. Lisa's bees are thriving thanks to the help and guidance of Nathan Foster.

☀️ Our new shade cloth system is finally going up, helping us prepare for the Oklahoma summer. Huge thanks to Alex Robertson for lending his skills and hard work.

👶 And while Alex was working on the farm, Debbie came to help us at market — with baby James in tow. Thank you, Debbie, and thank you James for being a very cute baby.

🍓 Meanwhile, Tran has been busy picking berries, making our new Ch*****ne & Mint Strawberry Jam, and preparing fresh quick-pickled radishes and turnips. She's amazing.

We also had our first Wheeler District Farmers Market last week, and the welcome we received was incredible. We can't wait to be back tomorrow night!
