Spring gets so busy that I need to remind myself to pause and enjoy all of the beauty.
The photo above is of a forest pansy redbud, newly emerging leaves from about 2 weeks ago. Redbuds are my favorite tree. I used their leaf shape in my logo too. Redbuds are tough, they have a strong will to live. The color of their pinkish purple iridescent blooms are like no other flower.

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love seeing everything spring back to life.
This morning I heard barred owls calling to each other, and I went outside and actually spotted 4 owls in the yard!!
For me this is a reminder of why I do what I do.
I am in it because I love nature, I love plants, I love creating beautiful spaces, and at the same time make our environment healthier and greener.
Having 4 barred owls in the yard was not a mistake or pure luck. This happened because I have been cultivating a natural landscape. I have removed honeysuckle, saved trees, planted more trees, I leave the leaf litter on my beds and in the woods, I plant natives and pollinators which attracts more good things. I plant not just food for me, but also food for the animals, my lawn areas are natural and chemical free, and by making these intentional decisions nature is finding me.
If you want to work with a company who really cares about every decision we make, who plants intentionally using sustainable long living plants, and locally sourced natural materials. Then we might be a good fit for you.
We invite you to start

Now is the time for rejuvenation pruning. If you have a shrub that has outgrown it's space, I always tell people late February on one of those unseasonably warm days is the perfect time to do this. Late February to early Match, but no later for optimal results.
Rejuvenation pruning is a hard pruning where you reduce the size of an overgrown shrub by 1/2 the size or more. You do this just before the plants start transferring their energy from root growth to leaf growth, and now is the time!
This works well on viburnum, burning bush, red or yellow twig dogwood, forsythia, taxus, ninebark, panicle hydrangeas, oakleaf hydrangeas, boxwoods, bottlebrush buckeye, elderberry, witch hazel, rose of sharon, and other woody stemmed shrubs that have outgrown their space.
Please remember when you do this pruning you may be sacrificing the blooms for this season, but that is ok.
If you are unsure and you need help, reach out via the contact form on our website.

People always ask me what our teams do in the winter, and we continue building, designing, and planting, as there isn't snow on the ground. Here are some projects we completed over the last few months.
Photos 1-4: A beautiful knot garden with native plants, stone curbing, brassfield fines path, and a fish pond.
Photos 5-6: A dry stack stone wall, using canyon gray stone
Photo 7: Removal of all turf + honeysuckle from this back yard, installation of native meadow seed, native trees, stone steps, hardwood paths, this property will have a super low maintenance yard.
Photos 8-12: Interior project, this home we repaired drywall throughout the entire home, painted walls, ceiling, trim, and refinished all of the original hardwood flooring. We love restoring the original beauty. Now we are moving on to the kitchen ;)
Thank you to each of our amazing clients for allowing us to be of service, and for making your environment more sustainable and eco-friendly.

This winter we used some of our down time in January to plan for 2026. We are going to be expanding our outdoor patio space! Along with a wide variety of events, and event rental possibilities.
The first image shows the new pavers we have selected in a classic checkerboard pattern in tans and buffs to compliment our existing permeable patio in our 30' x 40' covered area. The second image shows how the patio will be set up from March-May when everyone is eager to shop plants. The 4th image shows our huge hillside expansion planting, where will we be extending our native pollinator garden over to the city steps. The 5th and 6th photos show a possible wedding set up and morning Yoga when the weather warms up. The 7th slide shows a larger view of the property, the new education patio + garden, as well as where trees and shrubs will be located for retail sales, and the new retail greenhouse. The very last image shows that we have two convenient locations to enter our parking lot, both from Springfield Pike + E. Galbraith Rd.
The new 20' x 40' patio will give us a much nicer area to display our plant tables, where carts can roll freely. In the heat of the summer when plant sales slow, we will move the plants to our new retail greenhouse where you can continue to shop plants, and our patio can hold tables with umbrellas for those of you who enjoy basking in the sunshine.
The new patio will be surrounded by tall slender trees to make the space very private. It also will hold a 20 x 40 tent perfectly, so for large event rentals our covered patio space just doubled in size. We will be able to host small weddings, wedding showers, bridal showers, graduations, baby showers, birthdays, and more.
We are also excited for summer music, Sunday Yoga, silent reading party's, family game night and smash burgers, plant bingo, trivia, and more events that can bring the whole community together.
Every event we hold is family friendly and welcome to all. They are all designed to be casual, affordable, and as if you all came to our home to enjoy our backyard patio.

We invite you to stop in Wednesday-Sunday from 8am-2pm or come out to one of our many events.

If you are like me, I am just itching to be outside and counting down the days for spring to arrive.
It looks like the snow will be sticking around for a bit longer. Don't worry, I have good news for you...there are some seeds that you can sow in the snow!! ❄️
Some seeds required a stratification period before they can germinate, and the snow actually helps this process along.
Here is a list of seeds that do great if you sow in the snow!
-Milkweed
-Echinacea
-Hyssop
-Monarda
-Poppies
-Bachelor Button
-Love in a Mist
-Columbine
-Snap Dragons
-Delphinium
-Marigolds
-Salvia
-Crimson clover
-Native grasses
-Blackeyed Susan's
-Yarrow
How to sow in the snow?? A few ways, you can sprinkle seeds on the ground before a snow, or you can sprinkle on top of the snow, and then press the seeds down to the ground with your boot, or you can just leave them on top of the snow, they will find their way down to the soil as the snow melts.
Super easy, so don't let this snow stop you from getting out in the garden. I am going to plant my seeds this afternoon, and there is more snow expected tomorrow.
Enjoy the Green Life!
