We’re excited to officially welcome our new Fire Danger sign! Our old one had seen better days, and this replacement has been in the works for several years. We’re honored to host it and proud to support all the work the U.S. Forest Service and wildfire crews do to help prevent and fight wildfires every season.

A few fun facts about Smokey Bear:

🐻 Smokey Bear was created in August 1944 by the U.S. Forest Service and is the face of the longest-running public service campaign in American history.
🐻 A real bear cub rescued from a 1950 New Mexico wildfire helped inspire Smokey’s story.
🐻 Smokey even has his own ZIP Code: 20252!

We are already at HIGH fire danger, so enjoy the weekend — but please be safe out there.

🔥 Avoid parking in dry grass
🔥 Make sure campfires are completely out
🔥 Follow all burn restrictions
🔥 Be extra cautious with anything that could spark a fire

We are very excited to bring Phil Hess back for more historical information on the early days of farming and ranching in Teanaway. Phil was a hit at last year's Speaker Series, where he also discussed the logging industry and early settler homesteads. We're looking forward to hear more next Thursday, May 21, 2026, for our first speaker of 2026, at the Carpenter House!

Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mom, near and far.

My daughter is a principal, and her Kindergarten & 1st grade students sent me Mother’s Day cards that I will treasure forever. I’ll be here all day, handing out free bouquets — foraged straight from the TCS yard — while they last, spreading a little more of the happiness these cards brought me.

Speaking of mothers… meet the newest one in the valley. 🦬

This little red dog was born this afternoon — and if you look closely, those wobbly legs were already working overtime. Thank you to the Hansons at Swauk Prairie Bison Ranch for sharing!

Fun fact from the National Park Service: newborn bison calves (nicknamed “red dogs” for their rusty coats) weigh between 30–70 lbs at birth and are often standing and walking within hours. Nature doesn’t mess around.
