We raise cattle, hogs, sheep, goats and chickens on our farm, but by far the most important thing we grow is people. I have not posted much this summer because working with these three young men has kept me hopping (plus some traveling with the ones I am related to).

This was Aidan's third summer working on the farm. His first two years was primarily chicken work, but in 2026 his scope really expanded to include care of all species and more pasture and equipment maintenance. I think he not only has learned a lot about animal care, but also some about what it takes to run a business and the why behind the way we do things. Aidan will be a freshman studying aviation management and professional flight technology this fall.

Having our sons, Knic and Cale, at home this summer was a wonderful gift. To get to spend time together as a family before they transitioned to the next phase of their lives (Knic-graduate school and Cale-engineer at Caterpillar) was very special, plus they were great help on the farm. Knic made big upgrades to the chicken brooders, helped put a new roof on a barn and was able to remember and accomplish everything when I rattled off a ten part action item list. Cale had a shorter time at home, but he took good care of the garden, unloaded many tons of pig feed and like his brother handled my long verbal to-do lists with ease.

It has been a pleasure working with these fellows this summer and giving them the chance to accomplish good things, gain new skills and definitely put their muscles to use. Best of luck with your new adventures guys!
