Another meal from the neighborhood! Tonight’s features Brock Farm Stand’s chicken breast à l’orange (orange chicken made with Megan Louise Beall’s wonderful orange sauce), fried in Hays Family Farm beef tallow; over a bed of quinoa, a side of Loave Thy Neighbor kimchi, edamame, and Grateful Gardens CSA’s beautiful sautéed bell peppers. I’m so so grateful for our local makers, growers, and bakers. We’ve eaten like kings all summer long. 🙏❤️

Before starting my kombucha adventure, a good friend (thank you, Kaite Ator!) gave me this beautiful book I like to flip through/reference every now and then. I just read, “Any beneficial elements present in flavorings [adding fruit/veg] - nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, and the like - will be absorbed into the kombucha and broken down into forms that are easier for the body to assimilate.”

The fermented tea (kombucha) takes the already nutrient dense fruits and vegetables I add during the second ferment, and makes them even more bioavailable! Guys, this is amazing stuff.

Here’s the line up for this week*! Plenty of options to choose from! They’ll be available for pick up later this week, along with sourdough and other goodies, at our Heritage Lake Garage sale. Message me for more details! 🙏❤️

*Honeycrisp Apple

In the coming days, I’ll be posting a few notable changes I’ve made over the last month or so at the LTN kitchen…first up, butter! The notion to up my butter game hit me like a ton of bricks when, about a month ago, the butter I usually bought from the store looked a little lighter in color than usual, and tasted more like shortening. I checked the ingredients again, and lo and behold, the difference was that they added “natural flavor” to the list. I’ll let you go down the “natural flavor” rabbit hole when you have time, but it’s yet another nefarious ingredient used to disguise stuff that’s not supposed to be in food.

At about the same time, my wonderful friend Megan Louise Beall was preparing to set her booth up at our Canaan Community Church farmers market to sell kefir, butter, cream cheese, jams, jellies, produce and more. She offered to provide all the butter I need, sourced locally. I get about 10 lbs from her every other week or so, in big half gallon jars. No plastic, fewer emissions, grass fed, organic and from small farmers you can trust! The extra money I spend for higher quality butter stays local, and helps strengthen relationships between the dairy farmers and Megan, Megan and our community, myself and the community, and of course between Megan and myself. It’s always lovely to see her, now I get to more often! The good decision to eat local, healthy food has fractals that continue beyond your initial decision to do so. We are stronger in many ways when we make the choice to rely on each other. This (and more changes to come) is yet another way of showing how much I care about the health and wellbeing of my community. Thanks so much for all you’ve done to help support our local businesses! I pray they continue to flourish, and remain a blessing to all of us! 🙏❤️

Howdy hey, neighbors! There’s another Canaan Market this Saturday from 9am-1pm! All of your favorite vendors will be there with the exception of myself this time. BUUUT I’m baking a little bit regardless, and will have a small amount of fresh bread available for you from a friend’s booth. I’ll make you guess who. 😁 I will be taking pre orders again for next Tuesday, so message me if you can’t find what you’re looking for at the market! Have a wonderful weekend, friends! 🙏❤️
