Standing with Our Farm Families

The recent flooding has brought tremendous hardship to farmers across Indiana and surrounding communities. Fields, fences, equipment, livestock operations, homes, and livelihoods have all been affected.

At This Old Farm, we have the privilege of working with farmers every day. We know how hard they work, how much they sacrifice, and how deeply they care for their animals, land, families, and communities. When one farming family is hurting, the entire agricultural community feels it.

If you are looking for ways to help:

• Check on farmers and rural neighbors in affected areas.
• Offer labor, equipment, transportation, fencing supplies, feed, or temporary livestock space when it is safe to do so.
• Donate or volunteer through a verified local relief organization.
• Continue supporting local farms and farm businesses during the long recovery ahead.
• Share official assistance information so it reaches the people who need it.

Farmers who have experienced agricultural damage should document their losses and contact their local USDA Farm Service Agency. Hoosiers needing assistance or reporting property damage can also call 211 or 866-211-9966.

Recovery will take time, but farmers are resilient, and rural communities know how to come together. Please join us in keeping these families in your thoughts and prayers and helping wherever you can.

Friends of TOBS and This Old Farm,

This isn’t our usual post, and it’s one we wish we didn’t have to make.

After July 25, Lucas will be away from the shop for surgery and recovery for an undetermined amount of time. If you’ve been meaning to stop by, we’d love for you to come in before then to wish him well. Your encouragement and kindness would mean so much to him.

While Lucas is away, you can count on Cindy, Michael, and the rest of the TOBS team to continue providing the same care and service you’ve come to expect.

Please keep Lucas and Jessica in your thoughts and prayers as he prepares for surgery and begins his recovery. We truly appreciate the love and support of this amazing community. ❤️

This morning our butcher, Evan Smith, came out to visit the herd.

He even managed to bring the rain with him.

Evan is second generation at This Old Farm, where our cattle are processed each fall. In about a month, the first of this year's grassfed cattle will begin making their way there after spending the summer finishing on abundant Indiana pasture.

I appreciate that Evan takes the time to come out and see the cattle before that happens.

One of the things I've come to value over the years is the relationship between the people who raise the animals and the people who process them. We talk throughout the year, work through new ideas together, and share the same goal of producing food we're proud to put on our own tables.

For us, that relationship doesn't begin when the trailer pulls into the processing plant.

It begins right here in the pasture.

Whether you are cooking for a small group or hosting a full crowd, we are here to help you pick out exactly what you need.

Stop in today or tomorrow between 9 and 5 to get everything you need before the holiday. We will be closed Friday and Saturday, but This Old Butcher Shoppe in Lafayette will be open and ready to serve you.
