Turn up for turnips!! Turnips belong in the same family as radishes, mustard greens and arugula so they have a sweet, peppery crunch to them. They also have great fiber and potassium. Try this recipe to highlight this wonderful root vegetable!

If you want to "taste before you make", stop by the market on Saturday, where Chef Lex will show you how it's done!

USDA Certified Organic Turnips: Abounding Acres
Honey: Honeysuckle Acres
Optional Smashed Peach Hot Sauce: Kaged Heat

In 2020, Ashley and McKinley Worley started Abounding Acres, LLC in order to connect with nature and provide food for their community. Originally focusing on pasture-raised meats, they quickly found a love for growing fresh, high-quality produce, and decided to expand their garden into a small-scale market garden operation, which now grows over 50 varieties of produce. Since August 2022, Ashley and McKinley, along with their four sons Hudsen, Harper, Holden, and Hayes, have been bringing produce to market, year-round. In 2025, they reached a major milestone by earning their USDA Certified Organic designation—a testament to years of hard work and dedication.

This Saturday, try Hot Honey Turnips with Chef Lex at the cooking demo using USDA Certified Organic Turnips from Abounding Acres, honey from Honeysuckle Acres, and an optional Smashed Peach hot sauce from Kaged Heat . Then stop by Ashley and McKinley's booth to check out the amazing variety they bring to the market year-round, including the Wednesday evening market!

‼️ATTENTION: ⛈️💨 Due to the tornado watch, CFM staff and market services will not be available today, Wednesday, June 17. There will be no Oasis booth or token sales.

Many of our farmers and vendors have already harvested produce and prepared items for today’s market, so some may still choose to set up and sell at their own discretion. If you stop by, please keep a close eye on the weather and prioritize your safety.

Turn up your lutein intake with turnips!! Full of potassium, fiber, vitamin C, and lutein, turnips support healthy eyes and a healthy immune system. They belong in the same family as radishes, mustard greens and arugula so they have a sweet, peppery crunch to them and are great roasted, sautéed, or raw! Don't forget to cook the greens, too!

This Saturday, check out the cooking demo with Chef Lex to try a sample of Hot Honey Turnips from Abounding Acres, LLC with honey from Honeysuckle Acres. Want a little extra heat? 🔥Add the optional Smashed Peach hot sauce from Kaged Heat !

Storage Tips:
Cut greens off. Store unwashed in an airtight container, or with a wet paper towel in a bag.

🌽🥕 Supporting local farmers is at the top of Sustainability Specialist Tyler Gerstheimer’s summer sustainability goals.

This summer, Tyler plans to source as much of his food as possible from our amazing local farmers market. With a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other products available from local vendors, shopping locally is a great way to support small farmers and strengthen our local economy.

Buying food closer to home also helps reduce environmental impacts associated with long-distance transportation. As an added bonus, locally grown produce is often harvested at peak ripeness, delivering exceptional flavor and freshness.

This summer, consider visiting your local farmers market and discovering the benefits of eating local. 🌱🍅

What local foods are you looking forward to enjoying this season?

Meet Sodam Catering! Sujan Kim and her son, Peter, had been in business for two years before joining the Wednesday Columbia Farmers Market in 2024. Since then, they have become a customer favorite on Wednesdays AND Saturdays!

Stop by the Wednesday market this week at 1769 W Ash St, from 4-7 p.m. and enjoy their authentic Korean cuisine for dinner! On the menu: Korean Fried Chicken, Bulgogi with rice and veggies, Kimchi, and Gimbap.

Sujan says "we wanted a way to share our food with the community that didn't require investing in a restaurant.” CFM is proud to provide a space for business owners to grow, avoiding many of the typical barriers that new entrepreneurs face as they attempt to expand their business. Within a year, Sodam Catering was able to scale their business from serving customers at the Wednesday market (less than 1,000 customers) to the Saturday market (more than 4,000 customers)!
