If there are boxes of tomatoes marked for canning on the stand, they are sold AS IS and are not to be sorted through and replace the ones you don’t want from the bowl of tomatoes priced per pound. They are marked as canners and sold at a discounted price because they have blemishes.
If they continue to get sorted through we will not offer caning tomatoes on the stand anymore.

Due to running short on corn this week, we’d like to announce some changes in hours.
First and foremost, we will not be at the Hilldale Farmers Market on Wednesday August 19th. See you there on Saturday.
For the farmstand. We will be alternating at what time the corn will be available. Wednesday August 19th and Friday August 21st corn will be available after 2pm. Thursday August 20th corn will be available at 10am. The corn wagon will be pulled away when corn picked for that day is sold out. Hopefully this give both the lunch corn buyers and the supper corn buyers a chance at the sweetcorn. Please don’t be greedy and don’t plan on freezing a bunch this week.
We will consider how to continue when we get a better idea of when the next planting is ready. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We wish it was different but these are the cards we were dealt this year.

If you are wondering about the caution tape that is up at the farm stand, we found a hornet nest in the tree Wednesday morning. Baldfaced hornets are a beneficial insect that eats aphids, cucumber beetles, and many plant destroying caterpillars. However they do aggressively defend their nest. When we found it we taped off a safe distance around their nest and treated the nest last night. We have not observed any activity around the nest this morning. We will leave the caution tape up for at least today or until we can remove the nest from the tree. It really sucks that we had to get rid of something that helps us out so much but the safety of all you comes first.

Have you tried our sweet walla walla onions on the grill yet?
Cut off the top, hollow out the center a little bit, and make 3 slices half way- three quarters the way down to create a blooming effect.
Mix some beef bouillon with some butter and fill the cavity with it.
Sprinkle some lawery’s season salt on top.
Wrap some aluminum foil around the onion and throw on the grill.
Grill until the onion is soft and has some caramelization.
Enjoy.

Out of respect for the community following the tragic events in Madison this week, and in consideration of the planned activities on Capitol Square this Saturday, we have made the decision not to attend the Dane County Farmers' Market this weekend.
We will still be at the Hilldale Farmers' Market on Saturday and the Monona Farmers' Market on Sunday, where you'll find our sweet corn and all your favorite fresh vegetables.
Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this tragedy. We join our community in keeping the families impacted in our thoughts during this difficult time

This is a sign of drought. We try to sort these out during the picking and sorting process but a few sneak through here and there. If you get one we are sorry. It’s a problem we will have this year and will potentially get worse as the season goes on with how the extended forecast looks. We will continue to sell the corn until this gets too bad.
