Nominations for the 2026 Favorites of the Foothills Readers' Choice Awards by the Tryon Daily Bulletin are open through May 31, 2026, with voting following from June 8 through July 31. The annual contest, sponsored by Tryon International, allows residents to nominate local businesses, services, and professionals across the area.

Participation in this first round is key—if a favorite isn’t nominated, it won’t be eligible for the voting round. The nomination period runs through May 31, after which the top five nominees in each category will advance.

We love all things organic and soil-related! Our garden gnome is so excited about this new book from Eliot Coleman.

How is your garden growing? Things here are thriving: lovely Napa cabbage and bok choy, garlic waving its leaves, and cute little green beans peeking above the soil.
An amazing find was some dill plants that self-seeded far from last year’s planting area. What a treasure!
And this month I found a treasure—a new book by Eliot Coleman. If you don’t know him, you need to get acquainted. His new book is The Self-Fed Farm and Garden. If nothing else, the pictures are inspiring. Eliot is now in his late 80’s, loving the earth, driving his tractor, and inspiring us to farm and garden in partnership with all things.
