Coronado Farmers Market

Coronado Farmers Market This is a grassroots effort by local residents to bring a vibrant farmers market to Coronado and we need your help! Like our page to show your support.

Welcome to the Coronado Farmers Market page. We believe a full-service Farmers market would be a nice addition to our city and create a new community event for everyone to enjoy. This page is meant to gauge the level of community support and collect ideas for the location, types of vendors, day/ hours of operation, etc. You can make this idea a reality by helping in the following ways:
#1

) Invite your facebook friends to like the page and create awareness.
#2) Share your thoughts on the topic posts.
#3) Participate in a future public meeting tentatively scheduled for February 2014. If there is as much support as we hope, we will be hosting a public meeting in February to help move the effort forward and make recommendations to the City Council. Our vision for this market is a truly unique Coronado experience with a variety of local vendors that will be enjoyed by the entire community. We hope you share this vision and will be willing to add your name to the list of supporters below. For more information please contact us at [email protected]. Carroll Gerbel

The City Council meeting last night was a great example of democracy at work. Great turnout by supporters, respectful and insightful dialogue on both sides of the issue, and best of all, the vote by the Mayor and City Council to move forward was 4 to 1. Next up - There are a lot of questions that need to be answered/resolved, so the City's staff will be working through those questions. After that, we go back to City Council for final approval. It's a process, and we are so pleased with the results of last night's council meeting. Thank you for ALL for coming to show support for your Coronado Crown City Farmers' Market!

Thank you for letting Council know you support an additional market!
"In my short time on council, the new farmer's market item (5:15 time certain for tonight's meeting) is the single most commented upon- I have received copious emails- all in support." ~ Bill Sandke, Coronado City Council

Farmers and relish and pops, oh my! And coffee beans and bread and so much more, that's what full service markets are made of: ready?

We have a time-certain of 5:15pm for the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 20th. Let's fill those seats to show all our support of a new Farmers' Market. Here's the agenda for the meeting:http://www.coronado.ca.us/egov/documents/1421337794_1491.pdf Detailed reading of the report and other corresponding documentation begins on page 143.

Here are some talking points for writing letters of support to our mayor and city council members (email addresses at the bottom of this post).

Some advantages of a new, full-service market would be:
1. A full-service market includes not only Certified Farmers (based on criteria set by the San Diego County Agricultural Commissioner), but other food purveyors of fish, oysters, bread, sauces, olives, pasta, coffee, pastry and more, as well as a local artisans’ section.
2. The favored location is the frontage road between the Coronado Yacht Club and the Bluewater Boathouse Restaurant, both of which have given their support to this effort. A beautiful setting in an accessible location.
3. A better day, time and visible location to make the market more accessible to residents and visitors.
4. The Optimist Club of Coronado, the sponsoring nonprofit organization, would receive a percentage of the proceeds that would directly go to support their mission of Supporting the Youth of Coronado.
