Vroom! Vroom! 🏎️💨 We're getting into the spirit of Father’s Day + NASCAR Weekend...possibly the highest sheer level of masculinity this island has ever seen, and that's saying a lot!

If you're celebrating Dad this weekend with the roar of the engines nearby, cruise on down to the Ferry Landing this Tuesday (2:30 PM – 6:00 PM) to cross the finish line strong on his special day:

🍊 Fresh local citrus for backyard drinks or marinades
🥑 Creamy avocados, crunchy almonds, and sweet corn for the pre-race pregame
🍓 The tastiest seasonal berries for a Father's Day brunch
Give Dad a weekend he won't forget with the best flavors San Diego County has to offer.
See you at the market!

☀️ THE "OTHER" CORONADO! ☀️

Our island's population gets a wonderful boost every summer from our neighbors to the east who are trading the triple-digit desert temperatures for our cool ocean breezes.

If you live in Arizona, "Coronado" means a massive national forest, a mountain trail or a trendy Phoenix neighborhood. But if you’re standing on our beach, it’s a whole different vibe.

Here is the real tea on how we both got our names:

🏜️ Arizona’s Version: Named after the 16th-century Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, who spent years wandering the desert looking for mythical cities of gold. (Spoiler: He didn't find the gold, but he did get a lot of stuff named after him).

👑 Our Version: Pure aesthetics. In 1602, an explorer saw some islands off the coast, thought "hey, those look like crowns," and called them Las Yslas Coronadas. Fast forward to 1886: developers tried to name our town "Miramar." Locals hated it and stole the islands' name instead.

So while Arizona is named after a dude who got lost looking for treasure, California's Coronado was named because we just wanted to look fancy. 💅

Whether your home base is the Arizona desert or right here on the island, the real treasure is at the Tuesday Farmers' Market. Stop by today for the freshest California fruits and veggies, nuts, honey, eggs, cheese...and unmatched bay views.

🇺🇸 Honoring Service & Sacrifice 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, selflessness and dedication to something greater than themselves will never be forgotten.

May is also Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor the enduring service that members of the armed services, both past and present, make to our society. Among these contributions is their growing impact in the field of agriculture. Military service fosters discipline, adaptability and leadership — qualities that make many veterans a natural fit for farming.

As we gather at the farmers market to celebrate community, fresh food and local abundance, we remember with gratitude the service members whose sacrifice made those freedoms possible.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day filled with remembrance, connection and care. ❤️🤍💙

🍓 Squeeze the Season! 🍊
There’s nothing quite like cracking open a jar of sunshine in the middle of winter. The secret? Capture it now, while the market is bursting with peak-season strawberries and vibrant oranges.

Don’t let the jars intimidate you—small-batch preserving is surprisingly simple and the ultimate "flavor investment" for the rest of your year.

Pro-Tip: If you want to make life 10x easier, pick up a jar grabber (canning tongs). It keeps your fingers away from the heat and makes the whole process feel like a breeze!

✨ This Week’s Jam Inspiration:

Classic Strawberry Balsamic: Elevate those sweet berries with a dash of aged balsamic and a crack of black pepper.

Sunshine Marmalade: Thinly sliced orange peels simmered until translucent. It’s bitter, sweet, and perfect on a crusty baguette.

The "Market Mashup": Try a Strawberry-Orange conserve for a zesty, berry-forward spread that’s basically breakfast in a jar.

👩‍🍳 Quick Preserving Tips:

Pectin Power: When fruit is this fresh, it’s naturally higher in pectin. This means a better set with less added sugar!

The Cold Plate Test: Keep a saucer in the freezer. Drop a spoonful of hot jam on it; if it wrinkles when you push it with your finger, it’s set.

Small Batches: Cook in small batches to keep the colors vibrant and the flavors bright.

Come grab a flat of berries and a bag of citrus to preserve while they’re at their peak. Your future self will thank you, even if it’s just a muffled grunt through a mouthful of warm scones.

We almost called a crisis meeting. Here at Coronado Farmers’ Market headquarters, things are… eerily quiet. Suspiciously quiet. 🤨

Normally, the standard operating mode for farmers is complaining. Complaining about the weather. Complaining about the dust. Complaining about how the crops are reacting to the weather and the dust.

Not enough rain. Too much rain. Too hot. Too cold. This tractor is busted. That irrigation break is making the Trevi Fountain look like amateur hour. Something is always plotting against us. 🚜🛠️

But lately? > We’ve had steady temperatures. It feels comfortable working outside. The plants are happy and growing like they mean it. A light rain came through, washed the dust away, and somehow didn’t leave a mud pit behind. The days are getting longer, and for the first time ever... we almost feel caught up.

Frankly, it’s unsettling.

So before something breaks and restores the natural order, come enjoy the results! The produce at the market right now is absolutely incredible. Peak freshness, peak flavor, and peak “grab it while the universe is cooperating.” 🥬🍓
