LABOR DAY, MONDAY, SEPT 8
THINKING 'BOUT GRILLING? WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED!

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1881 in Corralitos, CA — ha, just kidding! It was in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.

Many Americans celebrate Labor Day with parades, picnics and parties – festivities similar to those outlined by the first proposal for a holiday, which suggested that the day should be observed with a street parade honoring labor organization workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day.

Another pattern, at least locally, is grilling a variety of great meats from Corralitos Market. Oh, and what to choose? Since this is Labor Day, whomever is doing the grillin' shouldn't be working too hard, don't you agree? 'Think' marinaded meats, always wildly popular for Labor Day barbecues.

ARE YOU A FAN OF REALLY GOOD BEEF JERKY?

Corralitos Market first started making beef jerky in the early 1990s. These popular products have been in demand since day one and are made from lean top round beef. The venison jerky is made from lean top round as well.

Currently, the market offers five different jerky varieties, which are highly sought after and sell quickly. Every 10 days, the market makes between 100-120 pounds of jerky.

Corralitos Market's house-made jerky products are available by the pound in the deli section to the right of the butcher case display, and also by the packet atop the butcher case and at the checkout stands. The jerky packets are user-friendly, priced from as little as $2.35 to around $5.85.

Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.
