Good morning! The flower beds are doing great, I keep adding to them some store bought and some I started from seed. Again another learning curve, starting flowers from seed. It worked out well this year but I need to start them earlier.
Since I’m not using the big garden this year o even planted a couple tomato plants in the flower boxes.

It’s nice to have options; I have some veggies in containers first time ever doing that.
I was not going to use my raised beds this year, I was actually thinking of moving them. I’m growing tomatoes and peppers in those. There were some volunteer lettuce I noticed when I started cleaning them out so they will growing along side the other plants.
Moved the raspberry plants to the old chicken run. Plenty of good soil there from 7 years of chicken p**p!
I keep planting other veggies as I go also. There will be different growths and cycles, always learning about new ways (or old ways) of growing.
Hopefully it will be a good year for pantry growing.
As soon as I figure out how to change up the name it will happen.

I’ve been on the fence about posting this, I don’t like it when people are constantly posting their health on fb.
Not looking for sympathy or get well soon or anything like that, please and thank you.
Letting you all know I won’t be getting some things done this year or advancing very much on the homestead due to hip and knee surgery coming soon. But it won’t completely put me at a stop for you all that know me well lol.
Definitely not a big garden, probably will do container planting. Haven’t done that before but looks like a good option this year. So glad the greenhouse has been working out nicely, still making some mods to it.
Been planting lots of flowers though, lol. Can’t go wrong with flowers.
I have made some progress as you can see from past postings.
Oh and I will be changing the name/adding to it. It will be CJs Farm but it will have “and Homestead” added to it.

Been a little busy since my last post.
Made and canned up some beef stock. working on my flower boxes and around the walnut tree. It looks all is good with the walnut nothing is wilting yet.
Also I have been working on the ditch planting wild flowers and ground cover. Started last year and it didn’t do bad so I’m adding on. There is an area at the other end that I planted seed in.
Hopefully in the ditch and working into the yard I will have native wild flower spaces here and there.
I made one of the potato stacks interested to see how that turns out. When assembling it I was thinking it may get hot at times with the layers of straw and possibly hold too much moisture. 🤷‍♂️first time see what happens.
Need to get working on the garden, a little behind but not too worried.
Have good and safe Memorial Day, remember the fallen that’s what it’s about!! ✌️

This I think is going to be a good year for using the greenhouse. Had a learning curve last year, made some changes, increasing airflow with the side walls having windows I have one in now there will be 3 more, and.put up shade cloth.

Ya this is cool!! lol.

Good morning, got some maintenance done on the greenhouse over the weekend getting it ready to accept some plants. The greenhouse is a work in progress. Finally put a door on one end, needs some paint, but it’s a door lol. Will be adding some rain water collection and a small solar setup for power in the near future.
Moved my plants in there last night, and did up some more snail rolls. Those really are cool!

Flowers and veggies are doing well.
I transferred some flower seedlings to a snail
Roll to make room/save space. These snail rolls are really handy.

Lots of projects going on out here at the homestead. Working on a French drain, and repairs and some rework on the greenhouse.

Stay dry and warm this spring, and don’t forget to get those nails and hands dirty ✌️

So check this out…this is a graph of food prices over the last decade. Pretty devastating! And these prices won’t come down. Wages won’t keep up, there is a gap that is being created.
One positive thing is we are Americans, we can overcome this. We have ingenuity and drive to come out on top to survive, no matter what the governmental obstacles are laid in front of us.

Prices for food away from home (FAFH), or eating out, grew more quickly from 2014–24 than food at home (FAH), and the overall rate of inflation. Prices for all consumer goods and services across the economy, as measured by the all-items Consumer Price Index, rose by 34.3 percent between January 20...

Happy Easter everyone, the time of year for rebirth and awakening.
I am pretty excited this year about some things going on around this homestead.
I mentioned before about solar. That is actually happening. I will be able to supply power to part of the homestead with solar. I am acquiring the parts and designing as I go. One aspect is to save some money on electricity (rates just went up again, I don’t see that ending) and the biggest reason is peace of mind, knowing I will have power if it is for any reason.

I will be trying out some new growing techniques for vegetables.
I have flowers started, they will be used for cut flowers and drying, I haven’t decided if I will sell these or put them out at the stand for people to take for free. I really don’t want the pressure of sales, free usually makes people smile more.

It will be a fun busy year for me, really looking forward to it.
With my three girls that keep me laughing and on my toes it’s rarely boring out here.
