“Why do I see 🍓🌽🍒🫑 … at Corvallis and Albany farmers’ markets before they are ripe in my garden?”
🍓Are they LOCALLY GROWN?
YES, everything sold at our markets is grown locally (within 6 counties: Linn, Lane, Lincoln, Benton, Polk and Marion) and sold by the farm* that grew it.
(*One exception—some products may be consigned at our Community Table booths, but these products must be locally grown as well.)
🌽HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
Our farmers can extend the harvest season — early and late — by carefully selecting the varieties they plant and employing any number of innovative farming practices.
One common way to extend the harvest season is with the use of high tunnels.
High tunnels are plastic (polyethylene) covered structures that protect
crops from weather conditions (cold, excessive wind, rain, heat ..) normally experienced in an open field.
🍒So enjoy the early (and late) harvested produce at Corvallis-Albany Farmers’ Markets and rest assured we are …
keeping it local!!
