There is SO much goodness at the market right now! Our farmers are bringing in an abundance of fresh vegetables, beautiful flowers, sweet corn, tomatoes, and so much more. It’s the perfect time to stock up on the freshest produce of the season and support our wonderful local farmers and makers. ❤️

If you love putting up pickles, salsa, tomatoes, and other garden favorites, the market is a great place to stock your pantry. With so much fresh produce available right now, you can find plenty of what you need for your canning projects—all while supporting our local farmers.

Did you see these at the market? Did you wonder what they were? Did you taste them at the church garage grill? Many people were brave and tried these bitter melon at the market on Thursday 8/13. As the name suggests, they are bitter. But did you know bitter melon is widely used in Asian, African, and Caribbean cuisines, it is prized for its high nutrient content and potential blood-sugar-lowering properties. It’s commonly used without the seeds stir-fried with eggs or meats, simmered in hearty soups, stuffed, or blended into juices and curries. If you feel adventurous go buy yourself some at Boua and Doua’s vegetable stand. Let us know in the comments if you like or don’t like bitter melon or if you have used them in your cooking.

🚨🌱 NEW VENDOR ALERT! 🌱🚨
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Sam Behrends Farm, joining us at the market this Thursday, August 13th! 🎉
Behrends Farm has a wonderful local history in Denmark Township, just north of Hastings. The farm has been in the Behrends family since 1919, when Otto Behrends purchased the farm. Today, Sam Behrends is the fourth generation to farm the land. Sam and his partner, Sarah, are now transitioning into their roles as the next generation of farmers, while Sam’s parents, Tim and Janel Behrends, begin their transition into retirement.
The farm has evolved over the years, from a diversified farm to one focused on no-till and cover-cropped grains with a strong commitment to conservation. They’ve also recently returned to producing limited quantities of sweet corn, pumpkins, squash, and other vegetables for local farmers market sales. 🎃🥒
Sarah will be bringing some delicious homemade offerings, including home-canned goods, fresh-baked bread, jams and jellies, along with squash and other goodies. They’ll have many varieties of squash to choose from, and when the pumpkins are ripe, you can expect to see those at the market too! 🎃
We’re delighted to welcome Sam and Sarah and celebrate their family’s long history of farming right here in our local community. ❤️
