We will not be running a farmers' market in Creal Springs this year. There was not enough interest to make the market feasible and, as you all know, the lot we had been using was sold before the market concluded last year. So, this will be the Final post made to this page and the page will cease to exist soon.
If anyone is interested, many of the vendors can be found at Johnston City Farmers' Market on Friday afternoons 2:30-6pm and Carterville Farmers' Market on Sundays 10am-2pm. Feel free to go to those market pages and check out the Vendors' offerings. (There is some really awesome food at both markets if you want a great tasting and great priced meal!)

Love it or hate it, jellied cranberry sauce is part of our Thanksgiving traditions. These bits of trivia might help you appreciate the wiggly "log."

Hello everyone......just wanted to throw out this reminder....

Daylight saving time ends overnight tonight. Remember to set your clocks back one hour before you go to sleep tonight. And this is a great time to check your smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire entinguishers too! We want everyone to be safe this winter!

Hello Creal Springs and surrounding areas. It is the time when I should be getting a post made for the final farmers' market this season, which was scheduled to take place a week from today (Oct 27). But, that post will not be happening.

I was told this week that there can't be a market in October because the old City Hall lot we were using on Blue Ave. has been sold. 🙁 So, the last market of this season will NOT be possible. (Arranging a new location just isn't possible on short notice.)

The Regional Producer Farmers' Market is sorry for any inconvenience to those of you who would have attended. I know some of you were regulars and we got to know some pretty well. And despite low community turn out the past couple of markets, we had every intention of being there next week and seeing you all one more time this year.

So, where does that leave things for next year? Will there be a Regional Producer Farmers' Market in Creal Springs next year? Well, we just don't know. We have not yet had any conversations with City Leaders about 2019. And, as I explained in the last post (see post from September 22), things had gone down hill, so we were already up in the air from that and I was seeking the community's input (and I'm still seeking that).

So, I'll throw this question out to you because it's you're community. What do you want to happen as far as a farmers' market in town in concerned?

This is a post specifically asking for responses from local folks:

So Creal Springs, today was a really bad day for the market, as well as the craft event in town. It's days like this, when vendors take their time and costs to prepare their vegetables, baked goods, craft items, etc and then make the drive and sit for hours (in the rain and the cold), selling basically nothing, that cause vendors to never show up again and events to stop coming to your town. And this lack of attendance and lack of support follows an extremely high number of you looking at the market post. (I can't speak to that with regard to the craft event.) I realize it was raining, but I don't see that as the only thing at play here.

So here is my question to all of you. Do you want a farmers' market in Creal Springs or not? We have one more market day scheduled for this year, which is on Saturday October 27 and the market will be set up on that date, rain or shine, because that's what we committed to do for you. But, based on the lack of local participation, it's highly questionable whether the market will return next year. This is part of the livelihood of our vendors and they simply cannot afford to keep showing up if there's not market traffic to support the market.

I really do want to find some answers here, so please tell me what's on your mind.

PUMPKINS 🎃🎃🎃 from Cedar HIll Farm coming to the Regional Producer Farmers' Market in Creal Springs tomorrow, Saturday September 22.

Also new tomorrow from Shade Tree Farm: Delicata Squash - take a look at the 3rd picture....looks awesome and tastes amazing! And sweet potatoes!

And other new items are delicious baked goods from Dan Canup...cinnamon rolls, pies, breads, seasoned pretzels, carmel puff corn, puppy chow.

Check out some of the beautiful, Artisian soaps also available tomorrow from Dan Druszkowski.

And our third Dan (Dan Rogers) will have barn wood squirrel feeders - just in time for fall, as well as bird houses and other wood items.

Speaking of wood items, local favorite Don Chamness will be on hand with his beautiful painted wood toys. Remember folks, Christmas is just around the corner!

Other veggies on the market menu include butternut squash, green beans, tomatoes and bell and banana peppers.

We're also hoping to have a new vendor with packaged meat from pasture raised livestock with no aded hormones or antibiotics.

Join us Saturday afternoon, September 22nd 2-6pm in downtown Creal Springs, right along 166/Blue Ave.

This is our second to last market this season.

See you there!
