Mid day yesterday, we emailed and mailed a Letter of Formal Objection To Proposed Farmers Market Permitting Fee Increase - Proposed Fee of $6400 Per Calendar Year.

Hello everyone,
I’m humbled and overwhelmed by the groundswell of support from residents and homeowners in the City of Creede and the greater Mineral & Rio Grande County area. We want to save the Creede Farmers Market. Your expressions of kindness and words of support are incredibly encouraging. Thank you.

Part of what makes Creede a really cool and special place is that we care deeply about our community. Sometimes that means we butt heads and lock horns. That’s ok. Ultimately, I hope this conflict will bring us closer together.

I’m preparing a formal letter to send to the City of Creede Board of Trustees and will post a copy here.

Fingers crossed that the Creede Farmers Market will reopen soon! Stay tuned.

Hi Everyone:
After 10 years of operating the Creede Farmers Market as a service to the community, I am sad to say that it is cancelled this weekend.

The City of Creede is attempting to charge me $6,300 for a permit to operate the Farmers Market this year. In prior years, it had been approximately $50-$100 to obtain a permit.

Let me be clear – I do not make enough money to the cover costs of the market. That said, many local vendors are now unable to make money selling their items (e.g., bread, tea, toys, veggies, baskets, metal art, paintings on wood or canvas, etc.). Every year, the Farmers Market brings people to the City of Creede and it’s an opportunity for folks to gather.

I’m trying to work on the permitting issue. In my view, the City’s proposed permit cost is prohibitive and punitive.

We have decided on dates for the Winter Markets in 2026! We will have Main Street blocked off again. Fire pits and all of that.

Chocolate Festival:
Winter Market #1:
Friday
November 27th
9am-1pm
Setup starts at 730am

Winter Market #2:
Saturday
December 12th
9am-1pm
Setup stys at 730am

Group Info and Page Rules:
If you’re interested in becoming a vendor, head on over to our website, and there is a form that you can fill out to send to the Market Director. If you are a guest to the market and you wanna know available dates, you can check the Facebook calendar, but also our calendar is on our website as well.

If you’re trying to get a hold of a particular vendor, you can send us a message here, and we will relay the message to them. We will not be handing out any contact information for our vendors unless they explicitly tell us to do so. This is for common courtesy and security reasons. But we do our best to get you in contact with them if you need it.

In this Facebook group, feel free to post about your offerings that folks will see at The Creede Farmer’s Market during the summer. Connect with our local and visiting guests. Highlight what’s coming up for your booth and what we will see during your next vending visit to our Market.

This page is not for non-vendors that want to advertise their offerings. If you are a vendor, this page is not for you to solicit your offerings if you are NOT going to be at one of the Market Days we have during the summer. Violators will be suspended or removed from the group. No exceptions.

Happy Winter everyone!
Or is it Spring! It might be both, Right! Around here, we can have both seasons happen in a single afternoon.

We’re starting to get to work on our summer 2025 calendar. All the updates and all that kind of stuff will be happening real soon.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to every one of our vendors and customers both near and far! It was a great year and a great time for all! I’m happy to have had all of you visit with us from time to time. Let’s do it again next year!

Here’s to 2024 and I look forward to seeing you all again near Memorial Day of 2025 when we do it all over again!
