Had a swarm call last night, when I got them home I decided to give them a frame of brood from another hive to make them stay. I opened that hive and they were not happy at all. Had shorts on and got stung 5 times on my leg. Most of them are fine but this one gave me quite the reaction. Of course Donna Morris was giving me lots of helpful advice from the porch when she wasn't laughing too hard....

Update on my OTS queens, 5 of 5 are mated and laying eggs. I checked them all tonight and got them marked. Green is the color for years ending in 4 or 9.

Bad and good day beekeeping today, a bear climbed my fence around the hives and knocked over a couple of my mating nucs....

Bad and good day beekeeping today, a bear climbed my fence around the hives and knocked over a couple of my mating nucs. Then I got a text from Tom asking if I moved some bees into the hive at his house? I did not. A swarm moved right into the empty hive! Oh and when I picked up one of the hives off the ground and put them back in the box they decided to leave so I caught them again when they landed on a camp chair and put them in a different box but they didn't like that either so I just so long... now off to Rural King to get an electric fence for the hives here at the house.

We had bees in a swarm trap at Tom's but a bear got to them first. Now I don't dare leave my traps up there anymore. It was so muddy I had to hike back in and carry them out about a half mile. Hated to take them down from such nice spots....

I did my OTS splits last week and turned my 2 biggest hives into 10 splits, then Greg and I took bees out of a house.
