Bouquet of flowers for Miss Becky? Nope, musk thistle heads. It’s that time of year. Pull up the plants and destroy the heads. We don’t need them polluting our pastures. Cattle don’t like to get near them. If we only had goats…

We were waiting on Ham Trac, get it? New pigs were on the way to our farm this evening. These will be ready for your freezer this Fall. In the meantime, we have frozen pork in our freezers for package sales. Let us know if we can help!

While chickens have been the emphasis this week, the beefs just go about their business, converting grass into steaks! Spring rains and cool temperatures are helping our cool season grasses and clovers to produce to their potential. If you need beef, make sure you get on our list for Fall delivery. We’ll be on the farm tomorrow and back at market next Saturday. See y’all later!

We have finally finished moving chicken pens and chickens. We finished minutes ahead of rain this morning. The plastic walls are for wind and rain protection. When it gets hot and dry, the plastic comes off for better airflow. It’s great to be done with construction and moving everything. Now the pens will be moved frequently to get fresh and clean forages for the birds.

I guess this is a new twist on a chicken tractor. Today, the meat birds finally graduated to their new field pens, the other chicken tractors. The birds definitely are enjoying the clean grass and cool shade. Four weeks to fried chicken!

Look closely at the cup holder on our side by side. Ticks! Lots of them! It appears that the UTV is wiping them off of the grass in the fields. Enjoy the outdoors, but pay attention and practice tick prevention. That’s what Miss Becky tells me everyday!

The construction boss and supervisor Dawn Tanya, popularly known as Drew, are great help. One more day should complete these two chicken tractors just in time to move the meat birds to the field. See you at Farmers Market of the Ozarks tomorrow!

Two chicken tractors are under construction now. The metal lying in the yard has been repurposed from the old hog houses. We haven’t farrowed pigs there in 23 years ( it doesn’t seem that long ), so I decided we might as well reuse what we can. That is also saving us hundreds of dollars on metal roofing. That’s pretty good non taxable retirement income!
