The Dallas Farmers Market is The Shed, The Market, Retail Shops and Mama Idaโ€™s Community Garden. The Shed is an open air pavilion where you can shop from local vendors including Farmers, Ranchers, Food Artisans and Arts & Crafts vendors. Pearl Expy, Dallas Texas 75201

The Market is a 26,000 square foot food hall and artisanal vendor market containing four anchor restaurants, a mixture of local and specialty foods, artisanal food vendors and seating areas both inside and out where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in a view of the Dallas skyline. Mama Idaโ€™s Community Garden is located at the east side of The Shed closest to Cesar Chavez. The community garden is a place where people from all over North Texas can learn how to sustainably grow their own fruits and vegetables.

I Got a Pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ If you havenโ€™t made your way through the pumpkin patch in The Shed, nowโ€™s the time to pick your favorites before theyโ€™re gone. From classic orange beauties and colorful heirlooms to unusual shapes and sizes, thereโ€™s still time this weekend to bring a little autumn home. And remember, more than 80% of the pumpkins in our patch are edible, making them eligible for SNAP benefits. Stop by the blue information booth at the front of The Shed to learn more about SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks, which matches up to $30 per day in SNAP purchases of eligible fresh fruits and vegetables.

With more than 20 varieties to choose from, including Cinderella, Fairytale, Jarrahdale, Cheddar, Cushaw, Mystic Pie, Pink Banana, Blue Hubbard, and Porcelain Doll, thereโ€™s plenty to discover. Make one last trip through the patch, stock up on your fall favorites, and give pumpkin season the send-off it deserves. ๐ŸŽƒ

Make sure to set aside time for a walk through The Shed to find a pumpkin just for your furry bestie. Consider our Pumpkin of the Week: the Jarrahdale. With its striking slate-blue-gray skin, deep ribs, and flattened shape, the Jarrahdale stands out in the pumpkin patch. This Australian heirloom typically weighs six to twelve pounds and offers sweet, dense, stringless orange flesh, perfect for roasting, soups, and pies. Itโ€™s also known for its impressive shelf life. And in keeping with this weekendโ€™s canine theme, keep in mind that dogs can enjoy plain, cooked pumpkin, too. Just skip the tough rind, sugar, and seasonings. A small spoonful makes a simple seasonal treat theyโ€™ll love. ๐Ÿซถ

A Pumpkin with a Twist ๐Ÿค  Blossoms arenโ€™t just for butterflies and our enjoyment, though. Theyโ€™re crucial to thriving produce, including our Pumpkin of the Week, Cushaw. It starts with a bright yellow bloom and matures into one of the patchโ€™s most distinctive pumpkins, with a curved neck, a bulbous base, and a green-and-white striped rind. This heirloom squash has been grown in the Americas for thousands of years and is prized for its sweet yellow flesh and edible seeds. With pretty blossoms, bold stripes, and plenty of personality, the Cushaw is anything but garden-variety.

Fall is taking root at the Dallas Farmers Market, and as the seasons change, our Market Garden is shifting right along. With guidance from Master Gardener Gina Woods, weโ€™re preparing the garden for cooler days ahead with fall favorites such as radishes, rainbow carrots, turnips, rainbow chard, and plenty of greens. Many of the new plants have been generously donated by local garden partners, including Yardspell and North Haven Gardens. Make sure to check out the Market Garden this weekend and get inspired.

Weโ€™re also digging into something much bigger here at the DFM to support our local insect friends. The four educational beds beside the chicken coop (Come say โ€œhi.โ€ They love it!) are being transformed into Texas Blackland Prairie beds, filled with native grasses and wildflowers that were once abundant across this part of North Texas. With an estimated 99% of the original Blackland Prairie lost, these beds will offer a small glimpse of the landscape that once surrounded Dallas and provide valuable habitat for native bugs and pollinators.

The ultimate fall appetizer: BAKED BRIE IN A PUMPKIN. ๐ŸŽƒ

This one is almost too fun. A whole roasted pumpkin gets filled with melty Brie, sweet fig jam and all the cozy fall toppings and the pumpkin itself becomes part of every bite.

Inside:
๐Ÿฏ Brie + fig jam
๐Ÿ Chopped pecans
๐Ÿ’ Dried cranberries
๐ŸŒฟ Fresh thyme
๐Ÿฏ A drizzle of honey
๐Ÿง‚ Flaky salt

Start by hollowing out a small sugar pumpkin and roasting it at 375ยฐF for 20โ€“25 minutes. Fill it with everything, put the little pumpkin lid back on, and return it to the oven for another 15โ€“20 minutes, until the cheese is perfectly soft and melty.

Bring it straight to the table with toasted baguette, crackers or crisp apple slices. And when you dig in, scrape a little roasted pumpkin from the sides to get with that warm Brie. That might be the BEST part. ๐Ÿคค

The Big Mac is a giant heirloom pumpkin that typically weighs a whopping 50 to 100 pounds, with some overachievers growing well beyond 150 pounds (hint, hint) under ideal conditions. Known for its bright reddish-orange skin, deeply ribbed shape, and supersized presence, the Big Mac is a showstopper in the pumpkin patch and makes for an incredible fall yard display. ๐ŸŽƒโœจ
