Be sure to stop by the Co-op Market at Blue Mountain Station during Foodstock.

They’ll be serving up Neem Nau Tok or Thai Steak Salad as well as a vegetarian option of Pad See Ew or Thai Stir Fried Noodles.

You’ll also find lots of fresh local produce, including peaches, apricots, blueberries, raspberries, lettuce mixes and more!

“This is my first year running the Market during Foodstock, so I’m very excited to share what I’ve been working on with the community,” says Darlene Shook, Market Manager.

Shook says the Market works directly with local and regional farmers, producers and small businesses to offer a space for them to share their products with not only the community but with travelers too.

“Our produce is delivered freshly picked weekly. Although we are the only suite at Blue Mountain Station that’s open to the public, all of the food and beverage processors in our neighboring suites have products available in the Market,” she says.

Popular items include:
* Baked goodies, such as cookies, scones, muffins.
* Take and bake dinners and a variety of grab & go items—makes for an easy meal after a long day.
* Italian sandwiches and also turkey sandwiches on Thursdays through Saturdays. Gluten-free bread made in-house is an option.
* Fresh soups in the fall and early spring (not available in the summer).

“People are surprised that we have such a range for being a smaller market,” Darlene says. “We have anything from local milk, cream, cheese and meats to a variety of pastas, teas, herbs, as well as a good portion of dairy-free and gluten-free products. Most of it is locally crafted, sourced or produced.”

Among customers who’ve traveled the most distance to visit: From the states, Florida; from out of country, France. But you don’t need to travel that kind of distance for a warm welcome and good food!

Drop in and check out the Co-op Market at Blue Mountain Station in Dayton.

Foodstock, Blue Mountain Station’s “groovy food & live music” event, is Saturday, July 19, from 10a to 3p. For more information, visit https://bluemountainstation.com/foodstock.

FOODSTOCK TURNS 10 (or 11)!

This year marks the 10th Foodstock event in Dayton—would’ve been the 11th, except for Covid causing a one-year hiatus. The idea for Foodstock originated in 2015 with Regina Weldert, former owner of Rey’s Roast Coffee at Blue Mountain Station.

“At the time I was looking to make my business more successful, and one needs customers,” Regina says. “So the concept resulted from brainstorming ideas for creating more traffic at Blue Mountain Station."

Regina recalls the first Foodstock as probably being her favorite.

“I participated more that year—the fruits of my labor, I suppose. But I missed so much of the action as I was in my space serving coffee. I do remember it was a good time!”

The event has changed over the years. “We started it as a thrown-together, haphazard event. Now it’s more professional with better preparation—a family event with the water slide being a draw for the kids. And higher quality music with better sound and stage, better seating, etc.,” Regina says.

It’s been rewarding to see the event grow, she says.

“I love going to the Station and seeing all the cars parked in the church parking lot. I love the sound of the band playing, children laughing, and people visiting with one another,” she says.

“Sometimes the spirit of Woodstock lingers when our community gets together for an afternoon of entertainment and relaxation. That, to me, is what makes Blue Mountain Station what it is—community.”

Come and join the fun this year! If you happen to see or meet Regina, be sure to let her know what the event has meant to you.

This will be at least the fourth year Kiwanis Club of Dayton Washington has served hot dogs at Foodstock, says Joe Huether, secretary for the club.

In addition to Foodstock, the club supports a number of annual community events, including the Columbia County Fair and Turkey Bingo.

“Recently, we provided hot dogs for Little League and T-Ball Baseball and also sponsor youth programs, including T-Ball teams and Youth Basketball,” Huether says. “We also provide scholarships for graduating seniors and manage Camp Nancy Lee for youth and families.”

Look for Kiwanis at Saturday’s groovy food and music Foodstock event, 10a to 3p, at Blue Mountain Station in Dayton, and enjoy the hot dogs!

Where on Saturday, July 19, could you possibly catch both Calico Bones and the Lucas Simpson Group playing live? That would have to be Foodstock 2025, of course, at Blue Mountain Station in Dayton.

Calico Bones, back by popular demand, will take the stage from 10a to 1p, followed by the Lucas Simpson Group from 1p to 4p.

Meet sisters Madison and McKenzie Lindsey, aka Calico Bones, in this short video clip on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CT-UyKAycM) and listen to their rendition of “Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d80_O8UYJLg).

Nurse and mother Emebet Madiso has added business owner to the list of activities that keep her busy from day to day. She and her mother, Shewaye, opened Shewa Ethiopian Cuisine in April.

Come to Foodstock 2025 at Blue Mountain Station in Dayton on Saturday, July 19, and you’ll have a chance to taste the unique rich flavors and spicy blends distinctive to authentic Ethiopian fare.

Among the most popular dishes: stir-fried meat with sliced onions and bell peppers; potatoes with carrots; and cabbage with carrots. All of these will be available at Foodstock—and more, including a kale dish, beef stew and lentils, which are all served with an old Ethiopian grain that’s gluten-free and fermented for more than four days.

“I have always loved the flavors and traditions of Ethiopian food,” Emebet says. “Cooking with my mom and sharing with family inspired me. I wanted to create something that not only connects me to my roots but also introduces others to our culture. Starting our business felt like the right way to do it.”

One staple of Ethiopian cuisine is injera, a spongy, slightly sour flatbread. It can serve as a plate and also a utensil to scoop up stews and other dishes.

“We will have six dishes with injera at Foodstock, and four of them are vegan,” Emebet says. “Everything we serve is made with love, using recipes passed down from generations. I want people to feel welcome, nourished and a little closer to a culture they might not have known before.”
