In late March, Gerry Lachance, the owner and operator of P&D Farmstand unexpectedly passed away in his home in South Yarmouth. Our Dad loved running P&D and he was proud to be the owner of this successful Cape Cod landmark. Those who knew him, knew of his immense work ethic and dedication to the business. As time passed, we began to weigh the options of what to do with P&D. Running a farm stand, albeit seasonal, is a very difficult and strenuous job. There wasn’t anyone in the immediate family who had the time or skill necessary to take on this operation. We also knew it could take many months to find a similar, like-minded buyer to fill our Dad’s shoes. To make things more challenging, a new lease agreement was not in place with the new property owner when our Dad passed. It was communicated to us that even if we found a buyer for P&D, a long-term lease would be very unlikely; therefore, we didn’t further pursue this path. While it brings us sadness that we’re not able to carry on our Dad’s business, we are grateful for the many years and memories he gave us each summer at P&D.
