Let the seed saving begin!
These are the seeds from 1 lemon squash. Did you know that fermenting your squash, tomato and cucumber seeds can prevent seed borne disease AND increase your germination rate?
To ferment your seeds before drying, just submerge them in water and let them sit for 3 to 5 days at room temperature. The bad seeds and the gunk will float to the top. Scoop it off, then strain and wash the good seeds at the bottom, then spread them out on paper to dry. I suggest either parchment or typing paper. Paper towels can stick and cause breakage when you try to pull them off. Be sure to label your paper with the variety, source and date.
After they are fully dry (I wait at least a week) they are ready to store in a cool, dry place for next year's garden. They should be viable for several years.
I will end up with enough for 20 gardens and plan to share liberally.
