Greetings! For those who have discovered our orchard sometime in the last 19 years, you know that we start checking apples and getting ready for a mid-September opening day right about now. You may also know that we have had some challenging times, just as many Iowa farms experience periodically.
We are facing a disappointing apple season and we are going to be honest about it. Although we had great fruit set in the spring, nearly all of our varieties are showing early leaf and/or fruit drop, which we have never seen before. A few varieties are doing well, but we are looking into what is occurring so we can go into next year with a plan for a more successful crop.
🍎We will not be opening the orchard for on-farm sales of apples this year. It is our hope that we can offer the varieties that are faring well through a local retail channel and we will share that information as soon as we have it.
🐝Unlike the apple crop, the honey harvest has been phenomenal this summer (thank you beautiful bees!) and we will likely have some pop-up honey days at the orchard this fall. You are welcome to message or email us if you wish to place an order for pick up. Our honey is also available at our favorite coffee shop, State Street Coffee, downtown Denver.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are proud to be a part of the local food system in Northeast Iowa and encourage you to support your local producers whenever you can🫶
We hope to see you at some point this fall!
