Introducing Kasubi, Thursday Tasting, Friday Chef Series & Tasting

Thursday Tasting: June Wine Club

June 4th 5:00-7:00pm

This week we'll be tasting through June's wine club selections from Spain and all are welcome! (Though wine club members get 10% off the shop)

Rezabal Txakoli

Rezabal is a third-generation winemaking family in the Getariako Txakolina appellation of Basque Country. The vineyards sit just a mile from the coast, where cool, salty air provides a crisp minerality to the vines.

This Txakolina is made 100% from Hondarrabi Zuri, a grape indigenous to the region. Hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, it offers a true sense of place in the glass. Tangerines and nectarines leap from the glass, finishing with a wash of sea spray that keeps you coming back for more.

You may notice a slight effervescence on the palate — classic for this style. Winemakers intentionally retain natural CO₂ from fermentation, giving the wine its signature spritz.

Vitîcola Mentridana ‘Uvas de la Ira’ Garnacha

"Uvas de la Ira," meaning "The Grapes of Wrath," is one of the more exciting Garnacha projects coming out of Spain today. Made from old-vine Garnacha sourced from the Méntrida appellation, the vines grow in rugged granite soils at high altitude, where the long growing season preserves freshness and acidity.

Fermented whole-cluster in open oak vats, the wine offers fresh red fruit with a savory, earthy finish. This isn't your average jammy Garnacha — it's more Burgundian in spirit and a great example of how refined this grape can be when handled with care.

Chef Series Week 3: Rosie's Sandwiches

June 5th 4:30pm - Sell Out

This week we are jazzed to host Rosie's Sandwiches (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAWFfRLRy_y/?igsh=MXZyYmgwejVhOXdiMg==) ! Inspired by their love for New York bodega sandwiches, Sam & Nathan spend their time away from their day jobs at The Junk Truck (https://www.thejunktrunkco.com/) slingin' robust, delicious sandwiches all over Denver. We know their classic chopped cheese will be on the menu - but their specials are what keep things interesting and we can't wait to see what they pull out on Friday.

No need for a reservation, just swing by!

Friday Wine Tasting

June 5th 4:30-7:00pm

This Friday we're welcoming back Bernardo with Maverick Beverage Co! Here's a closer look at the lineup:

Joyce Albariño
A crisp and refreshing white from California's Monterey County, Joyce Albariño brings bright citrus and stone fruit aromas with a zippy, acid-forward finish. It's a great entry point to this Spanish grape variety, perfect for warm-weather sipping or pairing with seafood and salads.

Joyce Rosé
This rosé is light and vibrant with gentle notes of strawberry, watermelon, and fresh florals. The crisp, mineral finish balances the fruit, making it an easy-going rosé for any occasion.

Secateurs Shiraz
This South Africa expression of Syrah is bold yet approachable. Dark fruit hits the palate first followed by hints of black pepper and a touch of earth.

Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva Rioja 2017
This wine from one of the region's most celebrated estates and stands as a benchmark for Gran Reserva Rioja. Rich and complex, it's layered with dark cherry, leather, to***co, and vanilla from careful aging in both oak and bottle. If you haven't dabbled in aged wines, this would be a great opportunity to wet your palate (not to freak you out... but 2017 was nearly 10 years ago).

We hope to see you around the tasting table!

With love & a little tannin,
Hannah

Introducing Rachel, Thursday & Friday Tastings

Thursday Tasting: THC-infused Beverages by Fabric

May 28th 5:00-7:00pm

This week we're excited to pour samples of the Denver-based beverage company Fabric.

"We craft non-alc and THC-infused drinks that keep you sharp, spark your weird ideas, and help you drop into the moment. We’re not here to knock you out, we’re here to wake you up. Our beverages are made with curated native Aussie botanicals, premium hops, and functional ingredients like hemp-derived cannabinoids. Aussies call sparkling drinks “fizzies” so we ran with it."

Chef Series: Week 2

May 29th 4:30pm - Sell Out

This Friday we're thrilled to host Wildfire Cuisine. They'll be slingin' craft 'za outside the shop during our tasting. We're thankful that Jess and John took an evening off from catering weddings and events (https://wildfirecuisineco.com/) to share their amazing craft with our neighborhood.

No need for a reservation, just swing by!

Friday Wine Tasting

May 29th 4:30-7:00pm

This Friday we're welcoming back Matt with Old World Imports!

Félines Jourdan Picpoul de Pinet
Straight from the sun-soaked shores of the Languedoc, this Picpoul is a perfect summer white - bright citrus, crisp acidity, and a saline minerality that pairs perfectly with raw seafood & a sunny patio.

Château Bouqueteau Chinon Rosé
A lovely expression of Cabernet Franc from France's Loire Valley, this rosé starts with fresh red fruit & finishes with a dry, refreshing palate. Powerful enough for the table, pretty enough to sip on its own.

Ca de Biao Dolcetto
One of the table wines of Northern Italy's Piedmont, this Dolcetto is the easier-going varietal compared to the big, structured wines of Nebbiolo. Dark fruit & soft tannins make it a great food wine. No need to age, just pop it open.

Ca de Biao Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo: the soul of Piedmont. While Barolo & Barbaresco need time in the bottle to settle, this expression of Nebbiolo is meant to be drunk young and with food. Lifted by red cherry with and grounded with an earthy finish, the soft tannins add structure and complexity.

We hope to see you around the tasting table this week!

With love & a little tannin,
Hannah

Thursday Wine Club Tasting: Croatia!

May 7th 5:00-7:00pm

This Thursday we will be tasting through May's wine club selections. All are welcome, and wine club members get 10% off of the shop during these tastings! Learn more about our monthly wine club here (https://www.bonvindenver.com/wine-club) .

A deep, ancient history of winemaking exists just a stone's throw from Italy's Adriatic Sea. Croatia has been producing wine for over 2,400 years. The land's first vines were planted in the Bronze Age, making for a long and rich history of viticulture and hundreds of indigenous varietals from which most Croatian wine is still made today.

Much of Croatian wine stays in the domestic market, but an increase in European and American tourism has led to a demand for these unique wines offshore.

Here's a closer look at Thursday's lineup.

Zlatan Otok Posip
Pošip is an ancient, indigenous varietal of Croatia dating back to 400 BC (!). These vines are planted on the rugged, steep sides of two Dalmatian mountains. With a terroir composed of almost entirely rock, minimal soil, intense sun, and strong breezes, the stressed grapes produce a dense, mineral-forward wine with a deep straw color. Grown organically and without irrigation, this fruit is hand-harvested and fermented on the skins for a couple of days before finishing in stainless steel. Serve chilled with hearty seafood like lobster, or with grilled pork chops.

Zlatan Otok Bilo Idro Plavac Mali
Translating to "little blue," this grape is native to the Dalmatian coast and is an ancient relative of Zinfandel. The soils consist of a limestone foundation accompanied by small amounts of brown and red clay that help retain moisture. This Plavač is slightly lighter in body than most, offering a bright palate of red cherry, blueberries, and gentle tannins. We recommend serving this wine slightly chilled, paired with comfort foods like pizza and burgers, or enjoyed solo as an easy-going red.

Hope to see you around the tasting table!

Friday Wine Tasting

May 8th 4:30-7:00pm

This Friday we're welcoming back Matt with S*M selections for an exciting re-entry of Martha Stoumen (https://www.marthastoumen.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopTYxyEc9JAcADzIvo39YQqUp7wn6mhC9bRYUCEGnTQImvdjBA9) wines to the Colorado Market!

Martha Stoumen Post Flirtation Red 62% Zinfandel, 38% Carignan
"Looking for a chilled red? This concentrated kitchen chameleon carries our banner for California crowd-pleasers. Year after year, excellent sourcing and careful blending yield a heart-warming wine that’s bursting with juicy red fruit. Bring this joyous bottle into any bustling hearth and share amongst friends old and new."

Martha Stoumen Post Flirtation White 45% Vermentino, 27% Roussanne, 19% Marsanne, 9% Muscat
"This refreshing blend tastes like vacation in a glass, here to combat all your lingering winter blues. Lively aromas of ocean air mingle with a sq**rt of lemon for a libation that’s begging for sunshine and seaside vacations."

Martha Stoumen Post Flirtation Rosé 88% Zinfandel, 12% Vermentino
"We only make this wine when the timing is right. The 2021 brings a parade of watermelon agua fresca and red clay on the nose. Lemon curd, acacia, and prickly pear on the palate cartwheel into a precise, dry finish. As usual, Post Flirtation Rosé doesn't fail to delight with subtlety and substance."

We hope to see you around the tasting table this week!

With love & a little tannin,
Hannah

Upcoming Closure

Starting May 11

Hi all!

When we opened in late October, we chose to keep our doors open and serve the community through the holiday season instead of closing for some maintenance that we knew we'd have to tackle eventually.

It's time to rip the bandaid off and remove the walk-in cooler that's become more trouble than it's worth. The good news is, the shop will grow by about 30 sq. ft., making room for exciting new products and more space!

We will be closed starting May 11th with a goal to begin selling product from the front half of the store by May 19th, and to be business-as-usual by May 22nd.

We encourage you to purchase your wine, beer, and spirits this week to prepare for the closure, and we appreciate your business as we brace for the hit to our revenue.

May’s wine club focuses on the indigenous, ancient varietals from the Dalmatian coast of Croatia.

As the last risk of frost in Denver approaches, those of us who garden are prepping our soils with rich compost. The more nutrients in the soil, the more tomatoes, herbs, and squash will come by summer. The better the soil, the better the fruit… right?

With grapes, that’s not the case. Poor soil makes better wine. When vines are stressed by a lack of nutrients and water, and even by intense sun and wind exposure, they send their roots deep into the soil and restrict excessive leaf growth. The vines then focus their energy on a smaller yield of healthy grapes, resulting in concentrated, rich flavor, color, and acidity. Quality over quantity.

Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is lined with rugged limestone soils. A Mediterranean climate and intense sunshine met with cooling sea breezes make for an exceptional wine-growing region.
