Talk a few minutes to Stuart Litt and it's clear he's ready to retire after 50 years behind the counter slicing corned beef, pastrami and dil pickles at Hygrade Deli on Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

As you should know by know I have passed the torch of ownership to Mr Charles Nolen of Cutters bar and grill in the eastern market. This past Friday was the official announcement of his taking ownership and my pending retirement. Chuck put on a great event highlighted by the appearance of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan , Wayne county executive Warren Evans, and district 6 councilwoman Gabby Santiago Romero. Can’t thank everyone enough. To our customers and friends thank you again for your support and please remember Hygrade Deli will continue on.

Dear Customers and Friends,

As I have said many times, my father bought Hygrade Deli from its original owner back on Feb 2nd, 1972. I worked the first couple of summers, then on a full time basis before taking over from my dad many years later. Now almost 50 years later to the day, I announce with excitement and mixed emotions that I have sold the Hygrade Deli. The new owner is Charles Nolen. Chuck also owns Cutters Bar and Grill on Orleans Street in the Eastern Market. I look forward to working in the transition with Chuck and his people, showing them how we do it at the Hygrade Deli, so that nothing changes in the food and service you have come to expect. The good news is that Chuck will retain the staff that you all have come to know and love. When transition is complete, I will move on to the next chapter of my life. My dad, may he rest in peace, and me and my family want to thank everyone past and present for your valued support. We couldn't have done it without you. Be safe, Be well, and please continue to support as Hygrade Deli lives on.

It’s a holiday weekend coming up that means we get some time off we will be closed this Saturday, September 4 through Monday, September 6 we will reopen Tuesday, September 7 everyone have a safe and happy holiday weekend
