The beginning of citrus season always comes when it feels least likely, when the Midwest is at its darkest; on the heels of solstice and bracketing the holidays with their confusing combination of joy and sorrow. Nature delivers to us this bright, sweet, acidic jolt exactly when we need it.

These stem and leaf satsumas are just like the new year: peak ripeness, with the wrapping still on, fresh, juicy bites full of promise. They taste like the hope we all have at the turn of a new year: that this year might be different, maybe just a little bit sweeter than the last.

Happy New Year from the Dot’s family to yours. 😌🍊🌿

She’s so pretty. Leggy and leafy, delicious in her own right, not stripped down to her essence and instead allowed to flourish, just as she grew

It’s simple and yet so beautiful. Fall, y’all.

The light this morning is really highlighting the beauty of these wax peppers. We love these spicy babes that grow so fruitfully in Michigan, like these ones from Ruhlig Farms. Ranging from mild to hot (1000 to 15000 on the ) depending on the pepper or the harvest, these peppers are great raw, pickled, sautéed, blistered on the grill, or added into sauces like molé. What’s yours favorite way to eat these long summer season delights?
