The beginning of citrus season always comes when it feels least likely, when the Midwest is at its darkest; on the heels of solstice and bracketing the holidays with their confusing combination of joy and sorrow. Nature delivers to us this bright, sweet, acidic jolt exactly when we need it.
These stem and leaf satsumas are just like the new year: peak ripeness, with the wrapping still on, fresh, juicy bites full of promise. They taste like the hope we all have at the turn of a new year: that this year might be different, maybe just a little bit sweeter than the last.
Happy New Year from the Dot’s family to yours. 😌🍊🌿
