Harvest season has gone mobile. Jefferson-Chalmers-based UpSouth Foods is a family-owned mobile food truck that is operated by three generations of Detroiters. Lead by matriarch Jocelyn Harris, a well-known east side community leader, UpSouth has a vision for the city of Detroit, and plans to bring the farm back to the city. Offering fresh produce from the convenience of a mobile food truck, UpSou
th hopes to change the way city dwellers think about eating and nutrition by making produce shopping simple and easy. "My goal is to introduce our community to their farmers. I want people to get the freshest food possible, because, truthfully, food is our medicine. Our goal is to get high quality-yet-affordable food into the homes of this community," says Harris. UpSouth - recent graduates of Techtown's successful business development program - spent the last several years servicing local schools, retirement centers and special events, but are now ready to expand the business to broader constituencies. Starting October 22, 2014 - UpSouth is available for one-off bookings as well as standing appointments. Interested parties should call 313-522-7156 to make an appointment.
