Check out Clean Genes Farm post below to see why their greens are so good & to preorder.
Ive shared this in the past but wanted to reshare as some may not know…This is what big box stores consider F R E S H...
I've done ample research when I enter big box stores...you know the ones I'm talking about. They run commercials on the radio how farm fresh they are all the time.
Sometimes I make it a point to go look at the organic bags of greens to check freshness and location it was grown and shipped from (I may or may not cringe at what I see).
71% of US lettuce come from California and 28% comes from Arizona...thus about 1% comes from the rest of the United States!
That's a long way to be shipped to get into your belly. Most lettuce that reaches us here in Tennessee is already over a week old before it hits supermarket shelves.
A sealed bag of greens from Big Box isn't the same as greens from a small no-till regenerative farmer (like a local farmer)...or a small grocer that truly supports local growers.
Most of the prepackaged greens shipped from a distance are sprayed with gases (MAP-modified atmospheric packaging)...they modify the atmosphere inside the package to make products have a longer shelf-life. This goes for organic greens as well. (MAP includes a long list of gases, plastic films on lettuce like romaine, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, etc)...give it a good search if youre unaware. These gases serve as a mechanical barrier to help with movement of water v***r within the product in the package. Add to that a grocery store may have misting tools over the produce section that keeps moisture on produce. These overhead misting tools may be hooked up to other sprays (and it’s kind of a mystery what it may be as they are tucked away or hidden)…so if you’re trying to avoid that, buying directly from a farmer you know and trust is the best.
Ever wonder why when you purchace a bag of greens it looks fresh in the store, but after you open it...it starts to turn quickly…the nasty slime? This is because it's then exposed to oxygen when opened and decay speeds up very quickly.
At Clean Genes Farm we harvest / Pack 24-48 hours before it reaches you at our farmers markets.
We obviously dont modify our packaging with gases to prolong shelf-life. We've actually been told by several people they can eat our lettuce without their stomach hurting after...wonder if it’s because we dont spray all the unnessary gases (or other petrochemical crap for that matter)?
We thank y'all so much for supporting the small local growers…We believe you deserve the best!!! SO we put our all into providing the freshest hand-crafted greens for you!
It’s a pretty special connection to know and see you every week❤️ It’s that time of year where preorders are a good idea to ensure you get your fresh local goodness…ordering is open now until Thursday evening.
