The Naqsragmiut Dancers from Anaktuvuk Pass recently traveled to Anchorage to perform at Quyana Alaska during the AFN Convention. First held in 1982, Quyana Alaska has become a longstanding tradition that celebrates culture and helps pass traditional dances on to future generations.
Anaktuvuk Pass is located in the Brooks Range above the Arctic Circle and is the last remaining Nunamiut settlement. Through song and dance, the group shares their way of life and their connection to the land, caribou and one another.
Fifty-one members of the Naqsragmiut Dancers attended this year, making them one of the larger groups at the convention. AC made a contribution to help with travel expenses and was there to cheer them on as they shared their traditions on the Quyana Alaska stage.
