Farmer John keeping busy with his PYO Strawberry festival along with catching 2 swarms of honey bees at the same time! 🐝🐝🐝. A bee swarm occurs when a single colony splits into two or more distinct groups. The primary swarm leaves with the old queen, while secondary swarms (often smaller) leave with unmated virgin queens. While intimidating, swarms are generally docile and just looking for a temporary resting spot before moving on. If you are dealing with two separate bee swarms, here is what is likely happening and how to manage them:Primary vs. Secondary (Casts): The first large swarm to leave usually contains the original, mated queen. Any subsequent swarms (casts) that emerge a few days or weeks later are typically smaller and contain virgin queens.
