Introducing another team member behind LNPK Grocery: Grant!

Grant is the AmeriCorps communications coordinator for LNPK Grocery. This means that any graphic, reel, map, or blog about the grocery has been created by him!

For Grant, being a part of this project has been about setting up systems for community resilience.

“I've learned so much about [the] history of how many corner stores there were in Lincoln Park when it wasn't a desert. So now even opening one grocery store is just gonna hopefully lead to similar models. And that's what's exciting to me: being a part of a project that could be replicated across the city or regionally.”

“My hope is to see it flourish and to see that it has been a positive influence on the neighborhood here.” Although he is nearing the end of his AmeriCorps service term, Grant hopes to see the grocery make a difference for people’s everyday lives. Please join us in thanking Grant for his work at the grocery store and wishing him well in his future endeavors!

As we continue to get ready for opening, we'd love to introduce you to the team behind LNPK Grocery. Meet Toussaint!

Toussaint will be working as a community grocery clerk at LNPK Grocery. His vision for the store is for it to be a space where “kids can come into the grocery store and see their favorite grocer, and grow up knowing about whole food, and knowing about having a balanced shopping cart.”

His favorite part about LNPK Grocery is its mission being a direct response to a community survey.

When asked what they most wanted in their neighborhood, Lincoln Park residents largely said they wanted access to whole fresh food in a grocery store. “It's not about us. It's about the community, and the community specifically said, yes, we want this, we need this, let's go. So that's huge,” explained Toussaint.

Please join us in celebrating Toussaint for his incredible work on the grocery store. When you pop by after we open, make sure to give him a big hello!

Tomatoes, carrots, and… cucamelons? We’ve got tons of variety at our sidewalk samples! Stop by and try a taste of our cucamelons, a grape-sized fruit that looks like a watermelon, but tastes like a citrusy cucumber! Come by tomorrow from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. outside of LNPK Grocery to taste the delicious produce for yourself. As always, all produce is free and for everyone😊.
